Following Auckland’s move to Alert Level 3 yesterday, we wanted to touch base and advise you of the actions we have taken as part of our response. With the growing number of positive cases of COVID-19 announced today, it’s a reminder that we all need to remain vigilant. Our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said that COVID-19 ‘grows before it slows’, so we all need to take personal responsibility to help safeguard against its spread. The Prime Minister has also indicated that the next steps around our Alert Level status will be reviewed tomorrow, and so we’ve made contingency plans to take us beyond that date so we’re ready for all possible outcomes. Incident Management Team activatedOur Incident Management Team (IMT) which includes your Student President, reconvened early yesterday morning and will continue to meet daily to collectively provide updates to staff and students, as the single source of current information and communications. Both campuses closedOur Mt Albert and Waitākere campuses were closed from noon Wednesday 12 August, and no students or staff are currently permitted on campus, apart from Security. Cafes, shops, libraries, the Copy Centre and Sports Centre will remain closed until further notice. Teaching and Learning supportAll classes were suspended yesterday, hopefully allowing you time to settle into studying from home. There will be some pre-approved online delivery of classes today and Friday. Please see updates on your Moodle or check with your lecturer to see if this is the case for you. While we hope to return to on-site teaching and learning soon, teaching staff have also been asked to prepare for full online delivery of classes for two weeks from Monday 17 August – Friday 28 August in the event that Level 3 restrictions extend beyond Friday. We’ll continue to update you throughout this time. Support and assistance for studentsThough we have experienced this before, we appreciate this can be an extremely unsettling and anxious time, and your health and wellbeing is a key priority. We encourage you to contact our Student Success team for a range of services to help you during your studies on 0800 10 75 10. Along with Health and Counselling, Te Puna Waiora Medical Centre (Mt Albert Campus) is also carrying out COVID-19 tests for Unitec students and staff who have symptoms.
