On April 27th join Harbor District staff as we do our part to prevent trash from getting into our waterways. We'll be cleaning up S. Water St. (already enough volunteers) and 3rd & Orchard sites. Milwaukee Riverkeeper provides the gloves, trash bags, and amazing FREE T-SHIRTS. YOU provide the hands and energy to pick up the interesting and sometimes bizarre trash that finds its way into our beautiful river system. Play Streets VolunteersPhoto: Play Streets event in Chicago Building off the success of Harbor Fest, the Harbor District introduces Play Streets to Milwaukee. This series of free events invites families out for an afternoon of games and activities that connect people to their harbor. We want locals to enjoy their working waterfront as much as possible as well as show off the new Harbor View Plaza. All events will take place at the east end of Greenfield Avenue. Mark your calendars! What to expect:

Decision makers would like to know your preference on how we can connect the trail and close the gaps. Take this quick poll! Jane's WalksIn honor of urban activist Jane Jacobs, author of The Death and Life of Great American Cities, an organization called Jane's Walk MKE is coordinating resident-led walks throughout the month of May. The Harbor District will be leading two of these walks. We hope you can join us. Details below. Join Harbor District Milwaukee and Jane's Walk MKE for this Jane's Walk on Jones Island. The walk meets at Kaszube’s Park (the smallest park in the City of Milwaukee!), 1225 S. Car Ferry Drive on Saturday, May 12 at 1pm. Enjoy a snack at the last remaining vestige of the Kaszube community while we learn about the history of the island from a direct descendant. On the walk we will see the industrial and shipping uses that currently inhabit the island and then learn about what the future holds as the Harbor District embarks on implementing its redevelopment plan. REGISTER HERE. The existing Kinnickinnic River Trail (KKRT) built in 2011, connects Bay View and the Near South Side to downtown. To deliver a continuous safe walking and biking experience through the entire Harbor District, gaps in the trail need to be addressed. This walk will explore opportunities to connect the trail while gathering your input along the way. It's a great opportunity to learn how these projects develop AND share any ideas that might occur to you along the way. The walk meets at the intersection of the KK River Trail and Maple Street on May 23rd at 5:30pm. REGISTER HERE. WaterMarks WalkPhoto: Cascade, 2015 by Alexis Rockman Artist Alexis Rockman and Dan Adams, Planning Director at Harbor District Milwaukee, will lead an informal walk for community members in Milwaukee's Inner Harbor. This place-based experience is part of "WaterMarks," a city-wide public art project developed by artist Mary Miss that invites the citizens of Milwaukee to explore and understand the water systems supporting their lives. The walk will begin in Kaszubes Park on Jones Island. Parking is available in a lot next to the park. Jones Island may be accessed by Carferry Drive or Lincoln Memorial Drive on the south end of the peninsula. Once on Jones Island, just follow the directions to the park. If you need more detailed directions, please call the Museum staff at 414-288-7290. Free and open to the public.
