Please note that school begins on Thursday August 22, 2019. "PRESCHOOL SUPERSTARS CONCERT"MAY 31, 10:30 AM!Our three and four-year-old classes will be entertaining us on May 31st with many original songs, several of which they inspired and/or asked for. Some songs got added to, like their version of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." The 3s asked for songs about butterflies, balloons and robots. The 4s wanted a happier ending to "Puff, the Magic Dragon." It's a rather long song but they do have the chorus totally memorized! Two newly popular songs also to be sung were written by two of our slightly older students, one in the 6s and another in the 7s. I have heard that these have even been sung on the buses, "Ooh, Ooh Kitty" and "In My Dreams," better known as what they like to call it, "The Horse Song!" They can even practice the songs at home with Youtube versions, found at "Mister Stevenson Concert." We hope to see you all on Friday, May 31st, at 10:30 AM! The Science Exhibition was a Hit!We had our Science Exhibition this past Thursday and, as expected, many interesting experiments and engineering projects were on display! Many of the students enjoyed the scientific/engineering process and presenting their findings/projects to family and peers alike. I was encouraged to see so many students present confidently and enjoy the process. In addition, I was thrilled to see a group of students troubleshooting another's improvised light source project minutes before the start. It was nice to see one presented with a problem only to have the group come together and figure it out without getting too stressed out. Great group interaction and science! How wonderful it was to see the whole student population involved in our science exhibition this year! There was such diversity in the types of experiments and questions explored! Thank you, parents, teachers, and students, for taking the time to listen and ask probing questions of the participants. This was an engaging and learning experience for all! CompostingA few months ago, our maintenance men built the school a composting box in the Field behind the track. We have been composing all our fruits and vegetable lunch scraps. It is working well, and we hope to continue. Next year, we will try to get more classes and students involved in a rotating schedule of taking out scraps and turning the pile. Parents, if you have any ideas or experience, we would love your innovative ideas and help. Finishing StrongOften as the school year draws to a close there can be a tendency for students and even teachers to check out as spring and summer fever is in the air. Even though the end is drawing near we still have two very important weeks to finish up our final units and take time to make up any units that students were unable to finish throughout the year. Let's encourage our students and children to remember to finish strong and run a good academic race. As a celebration for all the hard work put in over the year the last three days will be filled with water, games, and fun!! QSI Atyrau's Got Talent! We had such a great time at this year's talent show, and so many future stars in our school, we decided to do it again! Amazing job to all our talented studnets! June 7th Concert and Picnic! As promised, our final concert will mostly feature music by our talented student writers. Already, ten original songs plus added bits to two children classics will be featured. The 3s and 4s will do their own versions of these songs on May 31 at 10:30. However, for our older children, they will kick off our festivities for the June 7 School Picnic. Also, the best recorder compositions will be played as solos, duo, and even trios. All recorder students have been coming up with their own pieces, once they reach the "black belt" level of Recorder Karate. Children and classes can even practice the songs at home or in their classes as I have posted videos showing the song lyrics on Youtube while I play and sing the songs. The easiest way to reach these clips is to go to Youtube and then type in "Mister Stevenson Concert." Again, no children are on the clips, for security purposes, just the chord charts, as they are called. Additionally, students will play multiple instruments, including the already mentioned recorders, ukuleles, bass guitar, drums, and glockenspiels. Yes, it's another ambitious undertaking but why set the bar "low?" Already, the compositions are being sung on the buses and maybe you've even heard them at home. They are coming up with some very catchy tunes or song ideas! * * * * * After the concert, we will have our school's spring Picnic! The school will prepare shashlik (barbecue) and drinks. Families are encouraged to bring a dish to share.Lunch MenuAll meals come with fresh vegetables, seasonal fruit, bread, and compote/kissel. Monday:
