The Arts are a vital part of the education of the whole child and we are blessed to have terrific specialist Music and Visual Arts teachers work with our students. My congratulations to the students from Year 1 to Year 6 who make up this choir, our music specialist teacher, Mrs Goldie, accompanist, Mr Hicks and the many parents who support through early morning drop offs and evening and Sunday afternoon rehearsals! Well done Mrs Goldie, the choir has brought much joy to many people. The students representing OLG in the Performing Arts Festival are receiving terrific praise from the Performing Arts Adjudicator and we will bring you a full report of all our performers at the conclusion of the festival. However, the choir’s work is not finished, they will be performing this Friday evening at the RAC Arena as part of the One Big Voice Choir. Mrs Goldie has undertaken to provide this wonderful opportunity to our Senior Choir and they will join with many other schools for a concert this Friday. Good luck and see you there. Good luck also to our Tournament of the Minds teams who will be undertaking their collaborative problem solving challenges this Saturday morning at Curtin University. I am very grateful to Mrs Hince, Mrs Hardwicke, Mrs Fenlon and Mrs Elliot for their involvement in the upskilling of these students over the last term, there has been lots of lunchtime, after school and Sunday afternoon rehearsals to get to this level of skill. Good luck all. Tomorrow we are celebrating with our fathers, grandfathers, uncles etc for our Fathers’ Day Breakfast from 7am in the Multi Purpose Area. This is an opportunity to gather together and acknowledge not only the importance of but also the wonder of fatherhood. Fathers in our school are important in the lives of their children and in their education. I am grateful to the many fathers who contribute to our school community including Father Richard and Deacon Paul. I hope Sunday brings great joy to our fathers and acknowledgement of their importance in our lives. In a couple of weeks we will be celebrating Grandparents' Day at OLG. This year we have extended the invitation to the Parish Grandparents to be a part of our liturgy, concert, classroom tour and morning tea. Invitations will go out next week so please ask the grandparents in your life to save Friday 13th September for this great event. Both the Fathers’ Day Breakfast and Grandparents' Day would not be possible without the support of our P&F Association. Many thanks to the co-ordinators of these two events. The P&F is one parent group which is active in our school, a second parent representative group is the School Board. The role of the Board is to assist with financial management of the school and as an advisory parent voice. I am pleased to announce that the School Board have contributed to two big decisions that will positively impact our school. The first is the refurbishment of the toilets near the Year 4 classrooms, due to commence next school holidays. The second is the provision of a third Year 3 class in 2020. As we are moving to being a triple stream school, this is not a bubble class, rather it is an early provision of a third Year 3 class. Both of these events demonstrate the responsible management of our school and the impact of student voice on decision making. The students highlighted the toilets as an area of concern for them earlier in the year & I am proud that we’ve managed a speedy response to make it a safe area. FAQ for ICT Strategy Each week FAQs are published to assist parents and students in the implementation of the Our Lady of Grace ICT Strategy. The Student Management system Zuludesk will be used to upload all apps and to manage the safety and use of devices in the school. There will be workshops provided for all parents in the specifics of Zuludesk and in how it can be used at home. The questions this week are from our students. 1.Can school check what has been looked at at home on Zuludesk? No, school management of student devices does not have access to your browser history at home. However apps you upload at home will ‘drop off’ once you enter school grounds. 2. Will the iPads, apps and games be available during play times at school? No, devices will be used for learning in class time and under teacher supervision only. They will not be used or available in ‘The Hive’ or playground outside of class time. This includes before and after school, and recess and lunch. This is the current policy at school in 2019 and will continue in 2020. God bless Gabrielle Doyle This week's assembly will be presented by students in 1W. Flexibuzz - Tick Canteen Box SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMME CONFIRMATION The dates now read: The Iconography above the Altar In the centre is the Christus, the Risen Christ the hope and centre of our Faith. The left hand panel is the Archangel Gabriel and the right hand panel is Our Blessed Mother Mary. The two panels allow us to contemplate the Annunciation when Mary said “yes” to God’s request to bear his Son Jesus for a waiting world. As a whole: we have Mary’s “yes” – the beginning of our Christian Faith – the Alpha and our completion - the Omega, as we enter into the unity and dignity of the Risen Christ.
