Council announces $6.434 million Relief and Recovery PackageCouncil unanimously endorsed a $6.434 million enhanced Relief and Recovery Package at its Ordinary Meeting on 11 May, to support local short, medium and long-term COVID-19 recovery initiatives. Since the Victorian state of emergency was declared in mid-March, Council has ensured the continuation of vital services including Meals on Wheels, immunisations, waste collection and support for businesses and vulnerable members of the community. These measures were bolstered by the introduction of additional resources such as the Community Recovery Call Centre, Council’s live chat service and the roll out of food donation stations. Frankston City cleansing blitzCouncil, in partnership with the Victorian Government, is undertaking a city-wide cleansing blitz to help keep our city safe. Members of the public have been engaged through the Victorian Government's Working for Victoria program, ensuring those who may have lost their jobs as a result of COVID-19 have an opportunity to work locally. Those performing the cleansing blitz will continue to adhere to social distancing measures as set out by Federal and Victorian Governments. Council Grant ProgramHelping to support community initiativesCouncil has a variety of grants available for individuals, community groups and not-for-profit organisations, to help deliver projects that will benefit the Frankston City community. Draft Reconciliation Action PlanHave your say by Tuesday 23 JuneCouncil is working together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and other key stakeholders to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The RAP will provide a formal statement of commitment to reconciliation and the development of specific strategies and initiatives to enhance Council’s ability to connect and engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Frankston City. Council is seeking community feedback on the draft RAP until Tuesday 23 June. The video and accompanying blog were created by Council’s Tourism and Visitor Services Team in conjunction with the tourism community, under the banner #FrankstonReinvented. The campaign was launched on Monday 4 May and a week later (11 May), the video had received close to 50,000 views and the blog had attracted 1120 visits. Council not affiliated with private pool and spa safety businessesA number of Frankston City residents have been contacted by private pool and spa safety companies falsely claiming to represent Council. Residents reported being pressured to hire these businesses to conduct pool and spa inspections and registrations in order to avoid a fine. Hard rubbish collectionCollection dates for 2020 are now available to view via My Address on the Council website. Each household will be notified via a letter drop 2 weekends prior to their individual collection date. Hard waste may be placed on the kerb for collection no earlier than the Saturday two days prior to collection. Keeping families connectedCouncil moves Supported Playgroup onlineCouncil has moved its Supported Playgroup to Facebook, to help keep families connected while social distancing rules are in place. The closed group has 40 members, each with children under five-years-old, and is facilitated by Council’s Children’s Services Team. Facilitators share experiences such as daily story time, parenting tips, music and movement sessions and simple play activities with those families enrolled in the Supported Playgroup program.
