"Some claim that women artists of art brut still slumber in secret. Curator Irina Katnik impressively proves that this is not the case with her upcoming exhibition 'ladies – brut' at the galerie gugging. Here, the art brut ladies are shown hand in hand and at eye level with their male colleagues and works by the Gugging Artists and their international colleagues, which have never been exhibited before, are presented."

Oswald Tschirtner would have turned 100 on May 24, 2020. Mueum gugging's exhibition "Oswald Tschirtner.! It's all about balance" continues until January 10th, 2021.

"Minimum and maximum. The Gugging Artist Oswald Tschirtner (1920–2007) stands for both as his work contrasts a maximum of expression with a minimum of form and colour. The centrepiece of Tschirtner’s art is his abstract representations of humans – the unmistakeable 'headfooters', which confront the observer without recognisable gender characteristics or clothing."

"He was able to create intriguing works with just a few lines and occasional dabs of colour. The graphic oeuvre of this artist is distinguished by its fragility and poetry. Oswald Tschirtner counts amongst the most esteemed and successful artists from Gugging."

Musée Art Brut Montpellier are presenting a temporary exhibition dedicated to Pepe Doñate until December 31st, 2020.

"FILM MUSEE MAI 2020" by Musée Art Brut

"One can situate Pepe Doñate amongst the artists that follow the artistic current called 'art hors normes' (beyond norms). I would rather say that Pepe Doñate comes from elsewhere, far away, in time and in space."

Grand Blanc, Pepe Doñate (2005). Painting,  226 x 295 cm (89 x 116 in.)

"One will probably find him close to his ancestors, near a fireplace that warms up man’s hart as well as the long winter nights, enjoying there a strong beverage."

Déesse Mère, Doñate (2005). Painting, 203 x 152 cm (80 x 60 in.)

"One can surprise him sketching on rough surfaces dears, buffaloes, bulls, horses and other specimen of this fauna he represents so well with his  magical  hands. Pepe Doñate is a sorcerer."

Lady Godiva, Doñate (2003). 226 x 254 cm (89 x 100 in.)

Raw Vision 106: Out Now

Raw Vision #106 features: Jean-Marc Renault (shown above), Gwyneth Rowlands, Joe Coleman, Patrick Hackleman, Nellie Mae Rowe, Monique Mercerat, Albert and La Fabuloserie.

For French artist Jean-Marc Renault, his portraits and embellished hoods are about creating – not hiding – his identity.

all hoods featured: 2015–2019, fabric, embroidery, thread and mixed media, 20 x 40 x 25 cm (8 x 15.5 x 10 in.); photos: Christophe Sabaratos

“With a hood I become a kind of unidentifiable object, beyond my own identity,” the artist says. In concealing his own identity, he is making himself known. Oscar Wilde once said, “Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a
mask, and he will tell you the truth."
