Cancer CAG E/MCR Seed grants - open today

In this final grant round for 2020, there will be four grants available to early or mid-career researchers. Projects must have direct relevance to at least one Cancer BIG Idea. Projects can address any area along the continuum of cancer control (from prevention to palliation) with relevance to one or more BIG Ideas.

The funds for these collaborative grants are sourced from Cancer CAG and SPHERE funds, as well as additional UNSW philanthropic funds administered by UNSW Sydney. The funds must be spent for the primary purpose of achieving the objectives of the Grant Scheme. Granted funds cannot be used for indirect costs. 

  • Four grants of up to $50,000 over 1 year (GST exclusive) are available to undertake projects in at least one of the priority areas.
  • Of the four grants awarded, two will be awarded from UNSW philanthropic funds to UNSW affiliated researchers only, in the area of focus BIG Idea of Poor outcomes cancer - Improving outcomes for brain cancer patients.

Express your interest in leading the Cancer CAG

Scientia Professor Michael Barton will be stepping down as the Director of the Cancer CAG in mid-2021. Expressions of interest are sought for the role. The appointed Director will lead preparation of a Cancer Institute NSW grant application that will form the basis of the next 5 years of activity.

Childhood cancer precision medicine program shows 'optimistic early results'

Australia’s Zero Childhood Cancer program has so far identified the genetic basis of a child’s cancer in more than 90 per cent of cases, new research shows. The program, led by the Children's Cancer Institute aims to find personalised treatment recommendations for children with high-risk cancer and has seen promising results.

The Australian Museum Eureka Prize finalists have been announced including Prof Maria Kavallaris AM, Children’s Cancer Institute and UNSW Medicine for the CSIRO Eureka Prize for Leadership in Innovation and Science.

Cancer Institute NSW Accelerated Translational Research Grant

Cancer Institute NSW is pleased to announce Expressions of Interest for the inaugural Accelerated Translational Research Grant are now open. The Accelerated Translational Research Grant is a new five-year, $7M research program grant to accelerate improvements aligned to the NSW Cancer Plan. Full applications requested by invitation.

Cancer Australia & World Cancer Research Fund International Grants in collaboration

As part of the World Cancer Research Fund International Grant Programme 2020/21, researchers based in Australia will be eligible for this co-funding opportunity for funding commencing in 2021/22.  Applications that address the role of diet, nutrition (including body composition) and physical activity in primary cancer prevention will be considered for this co-funding opportunity. Applicants will be able to apply for: 

  • Seed Grants (Up to £60,000 for up to 2 years) 
  • Investigator Initiated Grants (max. £300,000 for up to three years)

Clinical Trials Training - Sponsorship Responsibilities

SPHERE has organised for Tanya Symons to deliver a workshop on the responsibilities for sponsors in meeting the requirements of the Clinical Trials Governance Framework. The workshop will be useful to staff members involved in either the administration or conduct of trials and is free to staff of SPHERE institutions. Masterclass webinar series: Demystifying the Molecular Tumour Board

Learn how members of a Molecular Tumour Board (MTB) come together to discuss and interpret tumour molecular profiles in the clinical context, recommending therapeutic strategies for the care of patients with cancer. Four self contained webinars will focus on one or more specific aspects of tumour molecular profiling that are the subject of MTB discussion.

TCRN

The Translational Cancer Research Network (TCRN) is a translational cancer research centre program funded by the Cancer Institute NSW and is a collaborative and interactive cancer research community based in the South East of Sydney, with links to cancer services and researchers in inner and southern Sydney, and Albury. It was formed to create an innovative and supportive environment for the translation of cancer research into improvements in patient care.

CONCERT

The Centre for Oncology Education, Research and Training (CONCERT) is a translational research centre program funded by the Cancer Insitute NSW. CONCERT exists to bring together the knowledge and expertise of cancer health professionals and researchers to facilitate translation of research generated evidence into practice to achieve better outcomes for those affected by cancer.

Cancer CAG

The Cancer Clinical Academic Group (Cancer CAG) brings together clinicians and researchers from three universities, four cancer services (with six major treatment facilities) and three Medical Research Institutes. Our combined research strength spans the translational medicine spectrum of bench to bedside and health service delivery.
