Support in a Time of Crisis

Dear Psychology Community,

We know that many of you have been affected by the horrifying and terrible events happening in Israel and Gaza in recent days. Many are suffering and impacted by the violence and loss. We hope our community can come together in this time of crisis to support one another. If you are in a place in which you can reach out to those around you to check in and offer support, please do. If you are in need of support, we encourage you to reach out to friends, family, and colleagues whom make you feel safe and/ or access the resources and services below. Echoing Chancellor Gable’s message earlier this week, we will communicate about the resources and opportunities for support and action as they become available.

Sincerely,

Dr.Tim Nokes-Malach & Dr. Elizabeth Votruba-Drzal

Undergraduate Research / Internship / Job Opportunities

PhD Application Feedback Opportunity

We’re reaching out to you because you are affiliated with a psychology program with undergraduates. We would like to let you know about a free, volunteer-supported program that helps people applying to psychology PhD programs. We think that some of your students would benefit from the program, and hope you will share this information with them.

The Application Statement Feedback Program (ASFP) provides constructive, fast, and double-blind feedback on research/personal statements for psychology PhD applicants, especially underrepresented minority applicants and/or those who may not be ‘in the know’ about the application process. ASFP is completely free and supported by volunteer faculty, postdocs, and graduate students in psychology!

We are asking two things of you:

  • Please forward this email to undergraduate students in your department to help us spread the word and reach undergraduates applying to psychology PhD programs who could benefit from this program. We need your help to reach these students! Lots more information for applicants is here.
  • We are also asking that you forward this opportunity to individuals you think may make great editors! Editors are faculty, postdocs, and PhD students in psychology PhD programs. There is more information here on what it means to edit with ASFP. Registration opens on 10/8 but in the meantime, folks can complete the editor interest form and we will follow up when registration opens.

This is somewhat time-sensitive: ASFP happens once each fall and is then done! Editor registration will be from 10/8-10/18 and applicant statements will be accepted from 10/23-10/26.
