Click here Winter is Here, Are you Prepared?Know Before You Go The snow is flying in the hills and we are all anxious to get out and enjoy the mountains of British Columbia. Riding enthusiasts are inexorably driven to the amazing resource that Super, Natural British Columbia™ provides. We are all hoping for winter with lots of snow and riding conditions that are safe more often than not. I encourage you to be well-prepared for your backcountry travel adventures this winter. Check out the "Know Before You Go" page on our BLBCA website. You will find many resources here that may help you with your backcountry travel decisions. I recommend hiring an ACMG guide, if you are experienced and chose to travel unguided, I recommend reviewing the following documents prior to your trip, BLBCA's Self-Guided Recommendations, ACMG's Backcountry Planning Brochure and Avalanche Canada's Pre-Trip Planning Course. They provide common-sense tips to help you enjoy a safe, enjoyable adventure. As well, AdventureSmart BC offers wise advice for all types of backcountry travel. The BLBCA supports avalanche research in a number of ways, including the University of Calgary's ASARC program. Don't forget to check Avalanche Canada's Public Avalanche Bulletin. Feel free to contact me at any time. Brad Harrison
Built in 1928, Assiniboine Lodge is North America’s first backcountry ski lodge. It is located in Mt. Assiniboine Park. In 2010 BC Parks, working with the current lodge operators Andre Renner and Claude Duchesne, initiated an extensive restoration and stabilization project on Assiniboine Lodge. Achieving the project goal of maintaining the lodge’s historical significance and character, it remains a jewel in this magnificent part of the Canadian Rockies.
