Newsletter June 2020
Keep up-to-date with what's been going on at Highgate Hill House School! A word from Headteacher DesignateDear Parents and Carers, It is with great excitement that I write this first letter to you, and yet at the same time, I understand that a change of Headteacher may feel like yet another change on top of so much that has happened recently. In challenging times like this, we really appreciate our family, friends and the support of the people around us. Being part of a community supports us not only to stay safe but to enjoy ourselves and do well. When I visited the school in March, I saw that Highgate Hill House School is just such a supportive community. The staff team work together with parents and carers to put children and young people’s needs at the heart of everything they do. I think that you probably already know this, and you will understand why I am thrilled to have the opportunity of leading this wonderful school and building on its success, so that we go from strength to strength together. I look forward to meeting you all as soon as possible. Warm wishes Gina Wagland Chair updateHello everyone, I sincerely hope that you have all been managing through lockdown and that the children have all maintained their appetite for learning. As I said in the last newsletter, we have now appointed Gina Wagland as our new Headteacher. I am looking forward to welcoming her to the school, from the 1st September 2020. There is a first letter from Gina to introduce yourself to you all and her photograph in this newsletter. We will keep you up to date with any exciting changes that are happening in school and of course any changes that we make in response to the current pandemic, following government advice. As always, stay positive and stay safe. With kind regards, Julie Smith Chair of the Board Learning online...Jen's experience of lockdownJen, our Therapy Assistant, says: "Initially I must admit it was a daunting thought, as of course cameras and videos tend to make most of us more inhibited and self-conscious. I was worried that the children I support might find this challenging and find it more difficult to connect with me, and me them. I need not have worried as it only took 5 minutes to break the ice and we were off!" Headteacher updateIt's been great to see so many children returning to school since the 1st June, and we are a delighted with how well they've been getting on. They have all taken really well to the Covid-19 rules and regulations, keeping their distance from one another and washing their hands every hour. The staggered break and lunchtimes have been a real success too, helping us to keep all our pupils and staff as safe as possible during these challenging times. |
