From the editors...

The staff newsletter is produced every fortnight by the Internal Communications team so we can share news, announcements, selected events and some requests for help. 

If you wish to communicate around the University, the newsletter is just one way to do that. Please check our Methods of Internal Communication webpage, and feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

The next newsletter will be distributed on Wednesday 22 March - the deadline is 4pm on Friday 17 March.

University of Dundee 50th Anniversary Concert (Sun 26 Mar)

To mark the University's 50th anniversary, join the University Choir and Orchestra in a celebratory concert - featuring Carmina Burana. This will be performed in the Caird Hall on Sunday 26th March 2017. The performers include current students, staff and alumni of the University in a one-off performance.

Business Transformation Change Programme – we need you!

Business Transformation have had a lot of interest in their Change Programme but they need more volunteers from Professional Services. If you’re interested in being involved, are enthusiastic, a good communicator and enjoy the ‘people’ side of things they would love to hear from you. New Mediator Opportunities

The university is looking for new mediators. Mediators provide a confidential service to individuals or teams across the University, who may be experiencing work relationship problems or whose communication and workplace practices have become, for whatever reason, challenging. DUSA Lift Closure 3 April to 9 June

Due to essential upgrading the lift located in DUSA will be out of operation for the period 3 April to 9 June 2017. Wheelchair access to the building will be available via both the Airlie Place entrance (Level 1) and Balfour Street entrance (Level 2). Fully accessible catering and toilet facilities are available on Level 1. There will be no means of moving between floors other than the stairs. DUSA apologises for any inconvenience this may cause.

Remarkable footage from the 1970s, a time when the hair was longer and the trousers wider, depicts the wide range of student experience at the heart of the University in 1977. Dundee’s women of science celebrated in HerStory exhibition

‘HerStory of Science’ an outside exhibition celebrates the early history of women’s extraordinary contributions to science from a local perspective. It also illustrates the progress made, by showing all the current female professors at the University. Read the full story.

The staff at Archives generously donate to the Dundee Foodbank

The staff at Archives (Alan Bell, Jan Merchant above) generously donated £72.50 to the Dundee Foodbank. This was raised with activities such as ‘Pitching Pennies’ and will be spent on UHT milk and tinned desserts. Find out how you can donate to Dundee Food Bank.

Honorary Graduates’ Award for Inclusive Practice

Submissions are now welcome for this prestigious award, which recognises and promotes the provision of inclusive practice across the University that removes barriers to access for students protected by the Equality Act. The award is open to both teaching staff and those based in Professional Services, and takes the form of a £1000 practice development fund. More information.

It’s available to everyone from My Dundee, Groups and Communities, and is packed with useful tips and advice on everything from managing revision to exam strategy, as well as more practical guidance on staying positive and managing stress. Network Refresh Update
