"As the owner of a busy café in a popular local holiday destination. I have to employ part-time and casual staff. I joined Business First Network to get advice and assistance with employment law and paperwork. It was great to find out that Business First Network are also able to assist me in complying with the new pensions regulations and that when my staging date for Auto Enrolment comes, I will have all the necessary recommendations and duties completed and will have a suitable pension scheme in place to meet the needs of my business."

Assessing the eligibility of your workforce

How do you assess eligibility?

With the new Government laws surrounding auto enrolment already taking effect with big companies, it won’t be long until smaller companies are made to follow suit.

As an employer you must enrol all eligible jobholders into the appropriate workplace pension scheme. This includes all those who are aged between 22 and the state pension age and who are above the earnings threshold.

But how do you assess their eligibility? There are many points to consider such as:

  • What is the earnings threshold?
  • What is my company’s staging date?
  • What about those who aren’t eligible jobholders?

See what some of your fellow members say

As a relatively new member of Business First Network I am very glad to see their assistance has already made an impact on my business. I have made use of their brilliant legal forms and they have saved my company and myself close to £2,000. The results of having a Business First Network membership are clear. Do not hesitate to become a member, I am very glad I did.

Do you know what makes you eligible for an HMRC PAYE & NIC inspection?

What to expect during an inspection

Inspections can happen anywhere from every 3 to 10 years and they are inevitable. Certain things can increase the likelihood of an inspection, such as submitting forms with incorrect information on them, late submission of forms like P35, or returning company cars without fuel benefit on P11Ds.

Always have professional representation with you during inspections, to avoid any slip ups on your part.

Be sure to have all requested documentation and prepare for the meeting thoroughly with appropriate representation.

If any issues are found, be sure to look at all your options and take any actions you think necessary. For example, dealing with assessments and appeals or paying the penalty.

Business First Network will be with you every step of the way, so make use of the great service available to you and let us make the process a lot easier.
