Countdown to spring has begun for all of us at the preschool. Baseball, birds, rainbows, rain…we are ready for springtime. However, we have stayed busy and learned a lot this winter. In January our Explorers had a comfy, cozy hibernation day to end our bear unit. We learned all about our five senses with hands-on activities and experiments. For Valentine’s Day week we read books about how to be a “Super Friend.” We invited a team leader to the preschool from Feed My Starving Children located in Libertyville to speak to us about children around the world who are not as fortunate as we are. To be “Super Friends” to these children in need, we participated in the “Share the Love” February challenge and collected quarters for the Feed My Starving Children organization. For just twenty-five cents, a child can be fed a nutritious meal. Our Explorers certainly stepped up and met this challenge! I am so proud of all my super friends. We ended the month of February by learning about pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. We read the book Lemonade in Winter, by Emily Jenkins and G. Brian Karas, so of course, the students set up their own lemonade stands. The parents were able to enjoy five different types of lemonade. Just a taste of warmer days to come! Our Wednesday Lunch Bunch program has been a success. In January the students participated in different STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) building activities. Our February Wednesdays were filled with cooking. We are now budding artists learning about Pablo Picasso, Monet, and Da Vinci and recreating some of their famous paintings. The children have adjusted well to a longer school day and will be ready for Kindergarten. Our Climbers celebrated our wonderful dads with “Donuts for Dad” in January. Thanks to Gurnee Donuts for donating five dozen donut holes to this event. Please be sure to support our generous sponsor. We also read stories about how to stay healthy and strong during the winter months. Registration will open for the 2019-2020 school year at our Open House on March 7th. We would love to have new families enroll in our classes. Feel free to reach out to us at the preschool or check us out on the website. We would be happy to answer any questions you have about our programs or to schedule a tour of our classroom and facility.

Another Appreciation Dinner is in the books! What a great night celebrating all of our 2018 volunteers. It's a night where our volunteers can sit back and be pampered.
Grandwood Park Park District and Grandwood Park Civic Association could not bring you the programs and events without the help of volunteers, employees, and our community. We understand that you cannot always help the day of events, but maybe you can help out preparing for the event. If you would like to get involved, but not sure how, please reach out to us at parkdistrict@grandwoodpark.net or civicassociation@grandwoodpark.net.
Thank you to the following businesses that donated amazing raffle prizes for our volunteers - Jandee Hair Salon, Sport Clips, One Stop Liquor, Mama K's Pizza, Mission BBQ, and Backyard Steak Pit.
