It’s always tempting to think of these evenings through the lens of “I’ve heard it before”, “I’ve had them as a teacher before” or “I’m too tired”. The value in Parent Information Evenings is that in gathering as one community we see and feel our shared investment in our school. Teachers have prepared succinct and thorough sessions for parents and we will keep to the principle of “Short, Sharp and Shiny” for our meetings. Join me for a 15 minute presentation in the Hall at 5.45pm, followed by a 30 minute presentation in your child’s classroom at 6pm. If you have more than one child there will be a repeat of the classroom session at 6.35pm. Whilst acknowledging this is a long day for parents I would like to thank all the staff for their work and efforts in ‘keeping you in the loop’. See you there. Gabrielle Doyle Congratulations to the students who received Merit Awards at last week's assembly. Rhyme Time: Our Lady of Grace is seeking expressions of interest from those of you who have children 0 to 3yrs. We are hoping to run these 30 minute sessions on a Friday morning after assembly in our Kindy White room. If you think you may be interested, please let Vicki in the school office know. Newman College Parent Information Sessions 9 Ways to a Resilient Child (a FREE event for Early Childhood parents / guardians only) – Monday 25 March, 9.00am in the Marist Auditorium (216 Empire Avenue, Churchlands) Parents will learn the psychological secrets that build their child's sense of identity, strengths and growth mindset in order to perform better, be happier and build resilience. 9 Ways to a Resilient Child is based on Dr Justin Coulson's best-selling book, which shows parents how to help their children cope powerfully and positively with the challenges that life throws at them. This presentation is one of Justin's most popular presentations with powerful stories and illustrations that every parent can relate to. He explains the factors that help and hinder resilience, why common advice such as "toughen up Princess" just doesn't work, and how competition and praise may undermine resilience. Respectful Relationships; Love at Home (a FREE event for all parents / guardians) - Monday 25 March, 7.00pm in the Marist Auditorium (216 Empire Avenue, Churchlands) How to get along with your kids and help them get along with you (and their siblings). We all try to get along at home... but there are those uncomfortable niggles. There's the eye-rolling, the disrespect, the lack of motivation to help out, and the sibling warfare. If we're honest, most adults have been known to shout a bit too, and let's face it, we don't always listen that well to our kids. Conflict and friction at home cause more trouble than we need, and interfere with everyone's wellbeing. Wouldn't it be great if there were some simple, practical things we could do to help everyone get along better - starting right now? In this session, you'll learn the best 'relationship rules' for a happier family so home life really does feel loving... most of the time! The presentation will be followed by a Question and Answer session. Parents are to RSVP to me for both sessions: jo.dunn@cewa.edu.au These sessions are for parents only. We hope that parents will use the information they learn to better educate themselves. Lake Karrinyup Country Club Subjunior Program - golf lessons and play for children aged 7 -14 years - all abilities welcome.
