Observing the life cycle of snails in vineyards

A recently completed study into the life cycle of brown garden snails in vineyards has shown interesting insight into how adaptive this pest is. Findings showed that snails of a particular size have the ability to reproduce at anytime of the year as long as climatic conditions are conducive, highlighting the importance of monitoring and strategic baiting.

Growers to be on the look out for snail pest

Increasing detections of the Green snail (Cornu apertus) are being reported within WA wine regions. Producers are being asked to be vigilant in reporting any potential sightings of this pest as it has the potential to breed very quickly and poses a significant risk to other agricultural crops, particularly in regard to market access.
