A paper providing guidance for de-prescribing type 2 diabetes drugs has been published. The article 'Adapting diabetes medication for low carbohydrate management of type 2 diabetes: a practical guide' has been published by the British Journal of General Practice. BDA gives positive review of Low Carb Program appThe British Dietetic Association has come out in support of the NHS-approved Low Carb Program App after releasing a positive review of the platform. The three-page report provides a comprehensive overview of the Low Carb Program; a structured education and behaviour change programme for people with type 2 diabetes, prediabetes and obesity launched in 2015. Users of the Low Carb Program have access to video lessons, handouts, recipes and a moderated online support forum. Production of the FreeStyle Libre is to be stepped up as part of a drive to make it more accessible for people in the UK and around the world. Abbott, which makes the device, said it is hoping to increase the manufacturing process by three to five times over the next few years. A map documenting where the FreeStyle Libre has been made available to people with type 1 diabetes has been created. Dr Partha Kar, NHS England Deputy National Clinical Director for Diabetes, published the infographic on his Twitter page. Pharmacists should be fully integrated into type 2 diabetes services to increase prevention and detection of the condition and improve care, according to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) in England. The organisation says it wants to see the NHS utilise pharmacists across all care settings to improve the care of people with type 2 diabetes and has published an online guide called 'Using pharmacists to help improve care for people with Type 2 diabetes' to support this integration. The names of Diabetes UK’s latest cohort of Clinical Champions have been unveiled. The charity has appointed 20 new healthcare professionals, including consultants, nurses, GPs, dietitians, podiatrists, pharmacists and psychologists to the programme, which promotes local leadership to help address variation in care. Guidelines covering type 1, type 2 and diabetes in children are to be updated by NICE, following four separate public consultations. The 2019 surveillance review considered four NICE guidelines on the theme of diabetes and all guidelines were subject to a separate stakeholder consultation.
