CEMA: Emergency management agencies need to be able to send mobile notifications

CEMA: Emergency management agencies need to be able to send mobile notifications

Given the number of emergencies that have occurred in the past two years in our community, many Calgarians are surprised to hear there is no way for you to receive an automatic alert to an emergency in your area on your mobile device. However, there is currently an opportunity to change that.

Until May 30th the Calgary Emergency Management Agency is asking you to support them in telling the CRTC that you want emergency management agencies across the country to be able to send citizens emergency notifications directly to their mobile devices.

Learn how a Wireless Public Alerting System could help you and your family during an emergency.

Digital tip: Soon your business won't be as limited by Twitter's 140 character count

Digital tip: Soon your business won't be as limited by Twitter's 140 character count

Twitter is known for having a 140 character limit on each tweet and anyone who has crafted one has at some point lamented "Oh, if only I had one more character to add in a photo." Soon, that will change.

In the coming months Twitter is going to be changing what counts towards your 140 characters in a tweet. For instance, @names in replies and media attachments (like photos, GIFs, videos and polls) will no longer “use up” valuable characters. This means your business will be able to post messaging on the platform without compromising meaning or value in order to include a link or photo that could boost engagement.

Read Twitter's full blog on the coming updates to find out exactly what these changes will include.
