A MESSAGE FROM SHARON OLKEN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTORDistance Learning Extended Through the End of the 2019-20 School YearDear Gateway Families, I am reaching out to inform you that, sadly, our two campuses will remain closed through the end of the school year (June 4, 2020). This decision was made to remain in alignment with SFUSD, the schools of six other Bay Area counties, and the latest, best information from public health officials. All of us at Gateway are of course disappointed by this development, but we have been hard at work planning for just this contingency. Yesterday, students began the excellent distance learning plans teachers have developed to make the most of this truly unprecedented time. Going forward, we are committed to learning, growing and leveraging our collective creativity to give students the best and most meaningful school experience possible. We are committed to supporting our students and families through the coming weeks and months. Laptops are available on loan for students who need at-home learning devices and our team is happy to work with you to determine the best option for internet access for your family. Please email familytechsupport@gatewayps.org or call/text 415-656-8747 for any technology assistance you may need. Please note that free meals continue to be made available for all children under 18 through SFUSD; click here for more information. Additional COVID-19 resources for families have been compiled on our website. I want to take a moment, also, to acknowledge the feelings of disappointment we share about the impact this has on our usual spring milestones and celebrations, particularly those for our seniors. Gateway’s Class of 2020 is a truly exceptional cohort of young adults who deserve every recognition and chance to celebrate their accomplishments. Our 8th graders also deserve a festive commemoration of their promotion from middle to high school. We will be in touch in the coming weeks with plans for postponed or alternate celebrations as we are able. Though we cannot physically be together, my sense of pride in this community and our collective strength has never been more sure. I am so appreciative of the flexibility and partnership our staff, students and families demonstrate each day, and truly cannot wait to welcome students back to Gateway in August. All my best, |
