University of Tasmania Ranks in Global Top Ten in Three Key Subjects

International rankings released earlier this month have rated the University of Tasmania amongst the top ten in the world in three key marine science-related subjects. The University was ranked fourth in the world for Marine and Freshwater Biology and seventh for both Fisheries and for Oceanography, according to the Centre for World University Rankings’ inaugural subjects ranking.

Temporary Work (Skilled) Visa Changes: What You Need To Know

On 18 April 2017 the Australian Government and Department of Immigration and Border Protection jointly announced that the Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (referred to as 457 visa) will be abolished and replaced with the new Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa. The changes will be rolled out over the next 12 months to make improvements to Australia's employer-sponsored skilled migration programmes to ensure they better meet Australia's skills needs. The first thing you need to know is - don't panic! The new visas aren't radically different from the current one. Here's what you need to know.

Tasmanian technology to help premature babies worldwide

Premature babies across the world will soon benefit from technology developed and trialled in Tasmania. A 10-year collaborative effort between Tasmanian engineers and medical researchers has resulted in the development of technology aimed at helping control the amount of oxygen delivered to premature babies, setting them on their way to breathing independently.
