We learned the vocabulary for young animals, flowers and other features of the Dutch spring. The three year old's made a 'kijkdoos' (diorama) about a farm with all spring animals to practise all these new words. The 4 and 5 year old's learned the difference between an informative text and a story and wrote their own 'informative text' about one of the animals. Spring is in the air! Show and Tell in the Three-Year-Old ClassShow and tell in the 3-year old class has been on Fridays since the first week of January. In the beginning, the threes brought in their treasures, but were very shy and not confident enough to share in front of their friends. Now that the school year is coming to an end this has all changed. The threes are still bringing in treasures, but are now beginning to speak up, and even share in complete sentences. It has always been a big deal to bring in a show and tell on Friday. But it has become an even bigger deal now that we have learned to use words with accuracy and confidence in front of our teachers and peers. Well done!! MAP TestingEnd of year MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) testing began today. Most students take four tests: Reading, Language Usage, Mathematics, and newly added Science. The new science assessment is based on the New Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which is part of our new science curriculum adoption as well as incorporated into our science accreditation objective. Students ages 5-7 do not take science, and ages 5-6 take only reading and mathematics. Remember, MAP testing is not a high stakes test! It is an assessment that provides teachers, students, and parents, with a glimpse into each child’s academic profile. Most importantly it is a useful tool to help teachers guide instruction for each child. We are looking forward to our end of year scores and tracking the growth from the beginning of the year until now. Once the testing session is closed, we will be sending the student progress report home around the beginning of May. The 5YO is presenting our "All About Snails" report and sharing their knowledge about snails with other students. Morning Snack from the Cafeteria!Tired of packing your child's snack every morning? Want your child to have a hot, filling snack/breakfast every day? QSI International School of Atyrau will now serve morning snack every day at 9:50 AM! Snacks include a freshly baked savory pastry (sweet once a week), yogurt or juice, and fresh fruit. Because snacks are cooked fresh every morning, we will need to know well in advance if you would like to order lunch.
