NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FIRES: RELIEF EFFORTS

Friends,

A few of you have asked how we're doing with the fires raging through Mendocino, Sonoma and Napa counties. We're well out of harm's way, including our winery, fruit, and bottled wine; so we're grateful and we appreciate the messages.

We know many people who have not been as fortunate, and there are thousands of people across those three counties alone impacted, with lives, businesses and homes lost. While keeping a close eye on the devastating fires, we've been hoping and praying that conditions improve. This week, people have been returning to their homes and there's increased optimism that fires will soon be contained.

While the fires have been happening across a wide area, including other counties like Lake, Solano and Yuba, it's a reminder of how small the wine community is. Although we make wine from Mendocino County - from fruit that is far west of the Mendocino fires - our community reaches further. We have family, friends and colleagues in Mendocino, Sonoma and Napa, many of whom inspired and supported us as we entered the wine business. We have colleagues and professionals that help us stay in business every day, including our accountant, the photographer who does our beautiful bottle shots, the people who deliver our wine barrels, the fine folks who sell us wine tanks, corks, bottles, and warehouse our wine - in towns like Santa Rosa, Sonoma, Napa and beyond. And we have customers and fans in affected areas.

Disasters like this can test a community and we continue to be amazed and humbled by the generosity of those friends and neighbors who are stepping up to help others, even when they themselves have suffered a traumatic event. We want to do the same. There are a number of ways that Waits-Mast is going to help out and we have information on some ways that you can help out as well.

Please read on for more information and continue to keep the victims of this disaster in your thoughts.

GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

We're a tiny winery, but it is important for us to be able to help out in any way that we can. We're in the process of pulling together an event with some of our San Francisco winemaking friends and when we have more information on that, we'll send an email with all the details.

In the meantime, here are a few different ways you can join us in helping out:

  • Support Sonoma, Napa and Mendocino businesses. We are looking forward to seeing many friends and winery colleagues at Pinot on the River in Healdsburg this Sunday October 22 and it will no doubt be an emotional experience as we taste each other's wines, swap stories and share countless warm hugs.
  • At the November 9 Taste of Anderson Valley event in San Francisco, 50% of all auction proceeds are going to community disaster relief funds in Mendocino, Sonoma and Napa counties. Buy tickets for the consumer tasting using our discount code waitsmast60, taste some great wine and bid on some incredible auction lots, including an exclusive Deer Meadows Pinot Noir vertical that we are donating. Ticket info here.
  • 5% of all online sales in our webstore through October 31 will be donated to the Disaster Fund of Mendocino County. This includes the wine club orders we're running this week!
  • Our delivery partner, Sidekick Delivery/JF Hillebrand rallied many of its winery partners to donate wine to be poured at select restaurant and wine shop accounts across California. Those accounts will donate all or a portion of the proceeds from the donated wine to fire relief charities and shelters of their choosing. The wines were offered up on Monday and Oakland Yard wine shop in Oakland and Ester's Wine Shop & Bar in Santa Monica swooped up the cases of Waits-Mast donated and will be pouring them soon to raise more money!

ADDITIONAL WAYS TO HELP OUT

If you're interested in directly making a monetary donation to the relief fund of your choice, we suggest the following:

Disaster Fund of Mendocino County

Sonoma County Resilience Fund

Napa Valley Community Foundation

American Red Cross (Red Cross donations can also benefit those affected by other disasters, including recent hurricanes in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico)

Every little bit counts. Thanks for reading to the bottom of this email and we appreciate your generosity and support. And we hope to see you soon!

THANKS,

Jennifer and Brian
