February is Black History Month - a time to honor and celebrate the rich legacy of Black history and the Black community in the United States. This month, and every day, we recognize that Black History Matters, Black Lives Matter, and Black Futures Matter. At Oakland Promise we are committed to honoring the contributions of Black people in this country and uplifting our Black Oakland Community, Black staff members, and Black scholars. Here are ways to celebrate Black History Month in Oakland. 

February is Financial Aid Awareness Month

The March 2nd priority deadline for FAFSA and DREAM Act is fast approaching! You must apply for FAFSA or DREAM Act to receive financial aid for the 2021-2022 academic year. Check out our financial aid resources below. 

Financial Aid Support Sessions

We're hosting VIRTUAL Financial Aid Support Sessions in February and March! It is important to file your financial aid application BEFORE the priority deadline on March 2nd! If you need help submitting your FAFSA or DREAM Act application, don’t hesitate to reach out to the advising team. Sign up for one of our Financial Aid Support sessions: 

• 2/10, 4 PM- 8 PM
• 2/20, 10 AM- 2 PM
• 3/2, 4 PM- 8 PM

Mentor-Scholar Activity #5

This activity will be focused on supporting you to set up Virtual Informational Interviews and require that you successfully log into your account with our partner organization, Students Rising Above (SRA). This activity includes 3 Parts:

1. Pre-work (SRA Resources ~ 30 min)
2. Main Activity (Virtual Informational Interviewing ~ 60 min)
3. Feedback Form (5 min)
