Congratulations to all our new 2020 scholars and a big welcome back to all our continuing scholars! We applaud you for the perseverance and flexibility you have shown over the past several months. The COVID-19 pandemic has had far reaching effects and there is still great uncertainty, nevertheless you all have shown amazing resilience during this time. The Fall 2020 term will be a nontraditional educational experience for many of you. Most campuses are providing online instruction and a few will be providing a hybrid of both online and in-person. Despite these challenges, Oakland Promise is here to support you to ensure that your Fall 2020 term is meaningful and engaging. August Activity It is important to establish a Communication Plan and Agreement to help set the expectations for the relationship. A communication plan creates a reference tool for accountability between you and your Mentor. Remember to revisit the agreement to make sure it aligns with how and when you are communicating. Click below to start your August Mentor-Scholar Activity and develop your Communication Plan with your Mentor. AnnouncementsFall 2020 Scholar Document Submissions Are Open! Scholar Doc submissions for Fall 2020 are now open! Scholar Docs can be submitted until 8/21/20. There are no advances or exceptions once we close the forms on 8/21/20. Once ALL Scholar Docs are submitted and receive Advising approval on 8/21/20, ALL scholars will have their check mailed between 9/14/20 - 9/25/20. First Year Workshop: Final Makeup Workshops If you were not able to attend a First Year workshop in June or July, we will be hosting 2 make-up workshops in the second week of August. This will be the final chance to attend a First Year Workshop. First Year Workshop is a mandatory requirement for all 2020 Scholars. Failure to attend a workshop will result in the loss of your scholarship Community College Success & Transfer Pathways Workshop: TODAY! Did you just graduate from high school? Is Fall 2020 your first semester? Whether you are thinking about attaining an AA, certificate, or transferring, the transition from high school to community college can be difficult. Learn tips to successfully navigate community college and hear from Oakland Promise Scholars about their experience and transfer process. Bring your questions! Internship & Job OpportunitiesNCCD Youth Justice Board: Youth Application Paid fellowship for young adults 18-24 in the Bay Area who have been impacted or had family impacted by the foster care or Justice system and are interested in working toward significant reform or abolition. $20/hour uAspire Student Advocacy Fellowship Student Advocacy Fellowship is for students interested in student-centered policy change to make college more affordable. The program runs Sept-Dec of 2020 and includes training, collaboration and support to engage with local and national policymakers Part-Time Tutoring and Teaching Assistants Jobs JCYCs mission is to cultivate and enrich the lives of children and youth from diverse, multi-cultural communities throughout San Francisco and beyond. |
