Access to buildings after this time will be confined to staff and HDR students who have been determined by their Division/Faculty to be essential workers and who will be notified as such by the University. If you consider yourself an essential worker but have not received authorisation from the Dean of Graduate Studies by Wednesday 21 July, please discuss arrangements with your supervisors. The Graduate Centre continues to be operational while the team is working from home. You can reach us at graduate.centre@adelaide.edu.au or 08 8313 5882. You may have heard that the University is currently considering a number of options to address the financial challenges facing the higher education sector caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and international border closure. Through the University’s Organisational Sustainability Program (OSP) we are exploring a wide range of options in order to set ourselves up for future sustainability and success. At this stage we do not anticipate any impact on your studies and we will share information with you as the Program progresses. The University remains committed to ensuring you can complete your degree without disruption and to providing the highest quality research education, student support and student experience, within the parameters of public health guidelines and advice. Please take care, Doreen Krumbiegel Tip of the Month The AGC team regularly see comments in reviews indicating that students have been sick and have taken leave, but we have not received any corresponding applications for leave of absence to formalise the leave. Taking leave of absence when you are sick is an important part of managing your candidature. Many scholarships have sick leave provisions as part of them (check the Conditions of Award that were emailed to you when you were offered the scholarship), so you could continue to be paid while on sick leave. All you need to do is complete and submit the appropriate Leave of Absence Application – international or domestic – as close as possible to the leave as we cannot backdate it very far, and include a medical certificate. Further information on leave of absence can be found in the Research Student Handbook on page 32. Including publications in your thesis Many students have provided feedback that they are unsure how to best construct their thesis when including publications. A new webpage has been developed as a guide on how to do this. This page gives a variety of options and ideas on the possible formats for a thesis which include one or more publications, as well as links to some completed theses in the Adelaide Research and Scholarship repository which may provide inspiration for your thesis. The guidelines and FAQs are still available. Postgraduate Scholarship OpportunitiesThe Adelaide Graduate Centre maintains a searchable database of available scholarship opportunities (both full scholarships and supplementary scholarships), funded by both the University of Adelaide and external funding bodies. While the majority of available scholarships are awarded as part of the standard admission and scholarship rounds for domestic and international students, some are awarded at different times throughout the year, and may have a separate application process. Visit the Postgraduate Scholarships website regularly for up to date information on current scholarship opportunities.
