No Images? Click here Term 2 Week 10Term 2 has been very busy for all staff and students with many being involved in a wide range of activities. The merit selection process for replacing Ms Cook has now been completed and the successive candidate was Ms Clough. She will take up her position as a substantive Deputy Principal at the beginning of Term 3. Also, Ms Harland was successful in gaining the position of HT Home Economics, she also begins in Term 3. Congratulations to both on their success. The Southern Districts Dance Festival held at the Glasshouse in Week 8 was a great display of the talent of students enrolled in DoE schools. Our students were outstanding in their performances and they and their teachers are to be commended for the long hours spent in perfecting their performances. Congratulations to all students and staff who took part in this fantastic event and especially to Mrs Livingston who is the Creative Director and Organiser. Well done! CHHS had 13 students compete at the North Coast Cross Country held at Nana Glen on Friday 21st June. Eight students progressed through to compete at State level Cross Country in Sydney later in July. A special mention to Reeve Anderson and Joel Perrin who were both age champions on the day in their selected age groups. Marine Studies students from Year 10 travelled to Sydney and were able to experience a Taronga Zoo night snooze which involved a night tour of the zoo and camping in tents. Students also visited the Sydney Observatory and on the last day, The Power House Museum was on the agenda. Overall, the students had a fantastic trip - even with the 12 hours of train travel. Six students from Year 11 and 12 spent a week on Lady Elliot Island snorkelling, reef walking, learning and studying the marine wildlife and their environments, as part of their Marine Studies course. A wide variety of marine creatures including turtles, sharks and whales were seen throughout the week. The students participated in a coral water transit, with all the information gathered passed onto the University of QLD to be used in the important research to help preserve the environment/wildlife in the area surrounding the island. Tuesday saw the best of the best compete against each other in the annual Ninja Warrior. The event was held in the MPC with the whole school as spectators cheering on the participants. Well done to all involved with a large number of students being successful in completing the whole course. Congratulations goes to Connor McNaughton for taking out the title of Ninja Warrior in a time of 1 minute 13 seconds for 2019. The School Cup Assembly held this week was a highlight of the term with a large number of students being recognised for their outstanding efforts and excellence during Term 2. It was a pleasure to see so many parents, family and friends attend the assembly to celebrate the achievements of these students, and well done to all those who have been recognised for their fine efforts. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe, happy and restful holiday. School resumes for students on Tuesday 23rd July. Bridge Breaking Engineering ChallengeThe annual Bridge Building Competition took place during the last week of term...with much destruction! Tech-Free TuesdaysEvery Tuesday during lunch, the Oasis has become a tech-free zone. Read about the activities they have been up to. Tennis Stars Travel to GraftonOn Tuesday the 25th June the open boy’s tennis team played in the semi-final round of the schools statewide knockout competition against Grafton in Grafton. The team consisted of Rhyan Hudson, Lachlan Eames, Ely Payne and Colby Wilkinson. The Camden Haven team played a fabulous game, but were no match for the Grafton High School boys. Rhyan and Colby tussled hard to win, but went down 6-3. Rhyan won his singles 6-0. Although Lachlan, Ely and Colby were fierce competitors, they went down in their games. The final result was 5 sets to 1 set Grafton’s way. We would like to thank the boys for their sportsmanship and making the game possible. Health Careers ExpoStudents from both face-to-face and distance education recently attended an Aboriginal Health Careers Expo at the Slim Dusty Centre in Kempsey. Many universities were present to provide health career information and answer questions, while various activities were set up to give the students ‘hands-on’ activities. Mr Dickenson (Careers Advisor) and Ms Hogan (Aboriginal Studies teacher) found the day a worthwhile experience for students considering Health as a career. Year 8 HistoryYear 8 have enjoyed all the practical activities during the Year 8 History course this semester. From the medieval feast they then moved onto building replicas of the homes of both the rich and poor. Our next topic of Feudal Japan finished off with a much awaited sushi activity that was as fun as it was delicious. The final topic of Indigenous Societies saw us making the Aboriginal flag with icing on biscuits, decorating boomerangs and making dream-catchers. To round off the semester, the students then created their own board game or card game on any topic we have covered. Year 8 History students will now move to Geography upon their return to school next semester. Distance Education students Step Up!Each year, we watch as various students shine with academic success, extracurricular activities and personal growth and development. We also celebrate their positive attitude and choices using the Step Up system.
