News from The House ... No images? Click here Karinya News - September 2021Dear Friends of KarinyaSeptember and Spring - Stunning! Whilst the challenges of these times continued over the first month of Spring, the days at Karinya House continue to bring sparkling moments to celebrate. We are currently walking alongside 48 women, 51 children, 18 babies. Among the 48 women, 24 are pregnant. Two babies have been born this month. Housing ACT are working tirelessly to increase the availability of safe and affordable homes. This month we have shared the joy with three women as they transition to their new "homes". One woman has been housed through the YWCA's "Rentwell" program. If you are looking to add purpose to your investment properties to support people in our community, we do invite you to give this program your consideration. Over September, the Mercy Walkers have been doing their thing, and all donations during the month have been matched by our Corporate Funding Partners. And in very exciting news, the image above introduces you to the fabulous "Karinya Tee". You can read more about all of these stories below. We hope you enjoy the news from The House... disAbility Maternity CareKarinya House is pleased to announce a new partnership with disAbility Maternity Care and we thank CEO and Educator, Namira Williams for her offer of connection and support. There is an alignment in the value statements of both Karinya House and disAbility Maternity Care. Based on principles of social justice, disAbility Maternity Care is about “Changing the conversation to support parents with a difference“. As part of this partnership, disAbility Maternity Care will donate the proceeds from the specifically designed Karinya Tee to Karinya House. An important COVID-19 Vaccination ClinicKarinya House has been working in partnership with ACT Health to offer Pfizer vaccination to women and children over 12 years of age with whom we are working. This is an opportunity for women to receive the vaccination in a safe, familiar environment with Karinya House staff on hand for support. Karinya House recognises being vaccinated is an important way we all can help to protect ourselves and our families. The first clinic was held recently 17 women attending. One child over 12 years attended with their Mum. Karinya House Senior Health Professional and Midwife, Alexandra Ball who coordinated the clinic with ACT Health was a welcome and familiar face for the women, together with Caseworker Kimberley Castles. 🙌🙌 Wow! The Mercy Walkers do it again...It has been a tough time for many, so the Walk this year was a softly, softly approach. The amazing 46 participants this year have raised an equally amazing $11,747! The original walking group and organisers, the Yass Road Crew (who live along the Lachlan Valley Way heading out of Boorowa... or thereabouts), again topped the team fundraising count. Jane, walking in Sydney, topped the individual fundraising count. All funds raised will be matched, dollar for dollar, by our Matched Giving Fund Partners. Dollars aside, we sincerely thank every walker who put their mind and hearts to supporting women, as they walked during September. Outstanding! And we celebrate you all. Another Wow! as you Doubled Up!We had regular donors and new donors and the supporters of the Mercy Walk going online during September to support women. Across September 2021, we received 342 donations totalling $34,295 (as at 12.30pm 30/9/2021 😎), including donations to the Mercy Walk for Women 2021.
