TERM 3 WEEK 3 AUGUST 7, 2019 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGEDear Parents/Guardians Congratulations to our Year 3 students who along with their parents are participating in the Reconciliation Workshop this week. The workshop looks at how we need to be prayerful and discerning when mending relationships. Our faith gives us great opportunities to heal and develop right relationships with our God and each other. The charism of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth helps us seek God in the everyday. We are celebrating Australia’s only Patron Saint, Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Saint Mary MacKillop had many sayings one of which was “Never see a need without trying to do something about it” both finding God in the Everyday and Saint Mary’s saying are solid wisdom for us in our busy lives. One of the events of school life that I absolutely love is Book Week. This year we are more than excited about Book Week as we are also launching our revamped library to be called “The Hive”. The old library has been transformed into a space that has been co-designed with students and books at the centre. The Hive will provide many reading and literature opportunities for our students and families. Next Thursday we have a ‘Sneak Peak’ morning tea for our many volunteers who work in “The Hive” and our P&F Executive members. Book Week in Week 5 provides many opportunities for you and your children to come and enjoy this beautiful space. The theme of Book Week is “Reading is my Secret Power” - don’t be convinced that you need to purchase or hire costumes for your children for the Book Week Parade on Monday 19 August in the MPA. Dress up in your favourite book character and join staff and students in the fun and celebration of all things books. One of the books being celebrated is ‘Midnight in the Library’ and our adventurous library staff have created two magical nights Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd of August 6.30 – 8.00pm. Wear your pyjamas, bring your favourite book and pillow and join us for night time experience in The Hive. Parents get to read to their children in the new space under a magical night sky. Years Pre-Primary to 3 are welcome to bring their parents and cushion on Wednesday and Year 4 – 6 are welcome to wear their pyjamas, bring their cushion, favourite book and bring a parent on Thursday 6.30 – 8.00pm. Lights will guide you to this wonderful event!! Good luck to our Robocup Teams who are competing this Friday. Many hours outside of school time have been spent creating and refining robots! Good luck to all our teams, thank you to the many parents who have supported our after school sessions and Mrs Fenlon for her work with our teams. The development of our Strategic Plan 2020 – 2023 includes some key outcomes that we will be working towards in our school improvement journey. In order to provide feedback to our school on our progress we need some benchmark data. To this end we will be undertaking a Climate Survey with our staff, students and parent community. More information about this online survey will be available in next week’s newsletter. God bless Gabrielle Doyle Congratulations to the students who received Merit Awards at last term's assembly.
