Invitation to new reporting standards meetings for Tier 1 and 2 charities

We are sending you this invitation because you are listed as the contact for one or more registered charities with annual operating expenditure close to or over $2 million and your charity is likely to be in Tier 1 or 2. This invitation is for the attention of your chief financial officer or equivalent.

These meetings replace our Chief Executive Forums this year, as our focus is on supporting the sector to get ready to use the new standards.

New reporting standards for registered charities became mandatory on 1 April 2015.

DIA Charities Services in conjunction with the External Reporting Board (XRB) is holding eight networking meetings in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in late July and early August to support larger registered charities with the new requirements.

The two-hour meetings are aimed at registered charities with annual operating expenditure over $2 million, which will report using either Tier 1 or Tier 2 standards.

Aims for this Meeting

As the Tier 1 and 2 standards are very comprehensive it's not possible to provide a detailed review of them all. This meeting will provide an update and overview of the Tier 1 and 2 standards, and opportunities to discuss your progress in implementing them, and to network with others on implementation issues.

The intended meeting outcomes are that charities will:

  • become more informed about the standards for Tier 1 and 2 charities
  • identify and discuss the most common issues
  • understand how other large charities are preparing to comply with the new standards
  • build support networks.

We expect that questions and discussion will vary according to the reporting standards you currently use to prepare your charity’s financial statements (e.g. NZ IFRS PBE, old GAAP). When you register for a meeting, we’ll ask you about this so that we can group attendees for discussion accordingly. We’ll also invite you to submit issues for discussion.

We recommend that the person responsible for overseeing your charity’s financial reporting attends. As places are limited to 50 attendees per meeting, please register a maximum of two people per charity.
