Recommendations have been put forward to address an “unmet need” for structured education and training for midwives managing diabetes in pregnancy. The Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD) commissioned a survey to assess the education and training needs of midwives in the UK who look after pregnant women with diabetes. A series of free online modules and workshops designed to ensure people get the most out of the FreeStyle Libre are underway. Aimed at both healthcare professionals and people with diabetes, they are being delivered by the Diabetes Technology Network UK (DTN-UK) as part of its FreeStyle Libre Education Programme. Public Health England (PHE) has updated its Diabetes Foot Care Activity Profiles to include data from 2015/16 to 2017/18. New CCG-level PDF reports are now available and updated diabetic foot care indicator data can also now be accessed, with STP-level diabetic footcare statistics scheduled for publication next month. A type 2 diabetes Prevention and Obesity in Practice stream has been announced as part of this year’s Diabetes Professional Care 2019 (DPC2019). The stream, launched during Diabetes Prevention Week, will also cover the prevention of diabetes-related complications. More than 11,000 people have registered for a new version of a digital hypoglycaemia education programme since it relaunched in January. The online Hypo Program was relaunched in the New Year along with an app, as creators Diabetes Digital Media (DDM) joined forces with Novo Nordisk to provide the free structured suite of personalised educational materials and resources to help increase awareness and management of hypoglycaemia in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
