Office of Human Resources

Dear Colleagues,

As we continue to overcome the challenges presented by the pandemic, we acknowledge necessary changes in the academic calendar. The elimination of spring break for students not only shortens the academic term for in-person classes and other interactions, but also affects a spring holiday for staff members.

Rather than entirely eliminate the staff spring holiday, we’ve decided to postpone until after the term ends and observe it on May 7, 2021. This allows campus operations to continue while students attend classes and gather on our campuses.

Furthermore, we are adding another University holiday for staff to attend to their own and others’ well-being. This day will coincide with the students’ self-care holiday on March 24, 2021.

Staff who are required to work during these University holidays should work with their supervisors to determine other dates to use the additional time. Represented employees should refer to their collective bargaining agreements to discuss any potential application of these holidays.

Please remember to take care of yourself and others by continuing to wear a face covering, practicing physical distancing and maintaining frequent handwashing.

Thank you for your continued dedication to keep yourself and our community safe.

In appreciation,

David N. DeJong
Acting Senior Vice Chancellor for Business and Operations
Vice Chancellor of Human Resources
