FAR WEST VIET TEX MEXPit masters from around the United States are collaborating at an upcoming event called, Far West Viet Tex Mex, where the latest cooking styles in BBQ will be showcased. Attendees can expect fusion menu offerings including Viet-Tex & Tex-Mex items like Brisket Phở, Bánh Xèo, Bò Lá Lốt Links, Boudin Wraps and Tacos. The various barbecue styles will be spotlighted through many eclectic and unique dishes. 2. PAPA X CHEDDARPapa John’s has launched a new global campaign, Papa X Cheddar, in which consumers can enjoy new Cheddar pizza options as well as a fashionable range of delivery driver street wear. The new range of Cheddar cheese pizzas is accompanied by 30 limited edition clothing items sold via Depop on a first come first served basis. This global campaign encapsulates Gen Z culture with mouth-watering food content alongside unique fashion looks. 3. APACHE GROWS ACROSS IRELANDPizza delivery sales soared during the pandemic as consumers craved comfort food at home. Consumption habits changed because of consumers working from home and dining in more. Apache Pizza has benefited from this consumer shift with Irish consumers ordering around 5.3 million pizzas from their stores during lock down. On the back of this, Apache has announced plans to open 20 new locations across Ireland in the next six months. The brand’s online sales have grown by 12% with investment in making online ordering easier and more accessible. 4. WENDY'S UK MENUWendy’s is making a return to the UK after 20 years, with the first location opening in Reading. The brand plans to open 400 restaurants in Britain with future expansion into Europe. While much of the menu at Wendy’s UK restaurants will be the same as its American counterpart, there will be some uniquely British creations. The menu includes a Veggie Stack, Avocado Chicken Salad, Dave’s Single Burger and Baconator along with a range of breakfast sandwiches. 5. M&S LAUNCHES MORE REFILL STATIONSM&S is expanding its refill trial across 8 new stores, including Lisburn, Stratford and Sears Solihull, by the end of June. The initiative began in December 2019 where M&S introduced refill stations into stores with over 60 lines of refillable groceries including pasta, rice, nuts and frozen fruit. The trial supports the brand’s plan to reduce single-use plastic and it is proving to be a hit with consumers as they can choose quantities leading to less food waste. 6. YO! CHILLED READY MEALS RANGEYo! is working with Kerry Foods to launch a range of chilled ready meals into Tesco. The range includes three mains, four starters and side options such as Chicken Katsu Curry, Japanese Style Fried Chicken, Duck Udon Noodles, Teriyaki Beef, Chicken Gyoza, Korean-style Fried Chicken and Panko Pumpkin. The new products will launch in over 400 Tesco stores starting next week. It demonstrates an expansion of Yo’s relationship with Tesco with food-to-go lines and kiosks. 7. EXPERTS WARN FOOD PRICE PRESSURESThe FT carries a comprehensive analysis detailing reasons for concern on rising food prices across the globe. It cites a combination of China’s growing appetite for protein, pandemic supply chain bottlenecks, commercial protectionism, drought in Brazil and the recovery of the out of home consumption as some of the factors at play. Separately a BRC-Nielsen report advises we are likely to see food prices increases in 2021 as global prices are at tier highest for seven years. It is also warning of Brexit related price impacts due to increased shipping and commodity prices. 8. PRET TO MORE PEOPLEPret a Manger has launched a click-and-collect service from its Manchester stores this week as part of its recent efforts to evolve the business model. Customers will be able to order ahead and collect food and beverages at their desired time. Pret also announced the opening of stores at MFG petrol stations and are set to pilot 4 new outlets inside Tesco supermarkets. These strategic moves build on Pret’s mission to make the brand more accessible to consumers. 9. GOUSTO TRIALS CARBON LABELLINGGousto, a British recipe box brand, has announced plans to trial carbon labelling on its meals. Customers would be able to pick and choose ingredients based on their carbon footprint before placing an order. Gousto will soon introduce more seasonal items which requires less energy to produce and saves on air miles. While this is a first for recipe box offerings, other companies such as Quorn, Oatly and Upfield brands already display the carbon footprint on their packaging.
