Season Kickoff Party - Monday, May 13

Rumors abound that there’s actual dirt to be had out there, and all of us at Donner Party Mountain Runners are fired up to kick off the season with you all! We’re hosting a social for all of our members at Truckee Philosophy to celebrate the start of trail running season here in Truckee/Tahoe. We’ll be providing appetizers/snacks for everyone and Philosophy will have some drink specials for DPMR members (of course, they’ve got great dinner options if you’d like to eat a proper meal there!)  Read more

Like the idea of running to music but not sure where to start? Selecting music that you consider to be inspirational while sitting on the couch (“Eye of the Tiger” from Rocky, for example*), may not actually be as effective when you’re on the trails. Research has shown that running to music that is slightly higher than your natural pace will tend to speed you up. Divine Death Valley by Helen Pelster

Exhilarated, if tired, following my stunning solo desert trail adventure, I half-heartedly looked for the dirt road turnoff to camp for the night. Death Valley is one of the few National Parks that allows some limited “dispersed camping.”

But before I knew it, I had driven past the unmarked road and was soon exiting Death Valley National Park and the State of California.  Read more
