We’ve got a big issue of Offside this month, including coaching, coaching and more coaching! March is Grassroots Football Month so we’ve got Small Sided Football coaching courses on offer at your Clubs!
I interviewed Ger Connelly from Dunbar Rovers, who is currently undertaking his Senior C Licence coaching course. You can read all about it below and I wish him the best of luck.
If you haven’t seen it on TV yet, make sure you check out the Play Football commercial that starred Alessandro Del Piero and our Marouba United player, Ella.
All this and much more. During March I’ll also be building up to the season with lots of competition info so keep your eyes on the ESFA website and the next issue of Offside.

Free Coaching Courses on Offer for Small Sided Football
ESFA is offering all Clubs the opportunity to participate in a free Grassroots Coaching Course at your home ground.
The course will be run by ESFA’s coaching staff and will educate all Small Sided Football coaches on how to coach all of your budding 6 to 11 year olds.
The 3-hour course will allow each Club to run their own internal programs with trained and accredited coaches. Our coaches will follow up the courses with a second visit to one of your chosen training nights.
The course is part of ESFA’s continued dedication to SSF and ensures that Clubs are provided with accessible coaching and knowledge from our coaching staff and will have our continued support.
We encourage all SSF coaches take part in this initiative. If you are interested to participate, please contact your Club secretary to find out when your Club is hosting the course.
When Ella met Alessandro Del Piero
It felt like something of a fairytale when 9 year old local Maroubra United player Ella came face to face with Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero.
Ella played a starring role in the official ‘Play Football’ television commercial alongside her club teammates emphasising, “it’s a good way to stay fit and have fun with your friends”. The lucky starry-eyed footballer was part of FFA and Football NSW’s television commercial that was shot at Football NSW’s Valentine Sports Park.
Eager to progress his coaching beyond amateur football, Gerard Connelly recently undertook the Senior C Licence Coaching Course at Valentine Sports Park.
Left without a coach midway through the season in 2010, Connolly took up a coaching role with his Club, Dunbar Rovers. Following the FFA coaching pathway since, the C Licence is his first step into advanced coaching.
“I have always wanted to take my coaching further than just throwing down a few cones and playing a game,” he explains.
The NSW Police defeated the Eastern Suburbs Football Association on Friday night to take home the 2013 NSW Police Cup.
The tournament, held at Bicentennial Park, was a significant turnaround from last year with the NSW Police sponsored by the Police Association and the Police Bank winning the series 2-0 against ESFA teams, Coogee United AAW1 and Dunbar Rovers AA.
If your team is organising a trial don't forget to submit a completed Trial Match Request form to your Club secretary beforehand.
Thanks to Football NSW
