The Northwest School Dance Department Showcase

  • Nov. 9, 7:00 pm, Broadway Performance Hall
  • Tickets for this event are free and can be claimed here.

Northwest School Dance students from 6th through 12th grade invite you to a delightful evening of contemporary, hip-hop, jazz, and social dance at Broadway Performance Hall.

The 2018 Dance Department Showcase features choreography by Northwest School Dance Faculty Ellie Sandstrom, Maya Soto, and Elvin Jones, as well as select student choreographers.

Says Ellie: "This show reflects the amazing talents, skills, and commitment of our students as well as our dedication to offer a well-rounded dance education here at The Northwest School."

Summits Program Available Now!

In March 18-29, 2019, our students and faculty will participate in Summits. These cross-curricular and cross-graded explorations engage students and faculty members in deep studies that are rooted in our school's values, history, and mission. Summits are unique experiences, providing paths to active engagement with global citizenship, environmental sustainability, social justice, curricular exploration, and community passions.

Students are required to complete one Summit each academic year as part of the school’s graduation requirement. These classes are part of a student’s academic record and will appear on transcripts. International trips fulfill this requirement for the year of travel.

Please take a minute to learn about the Summits that will be offered this year.

  • The course catalog can be found here.
  • Check out the Flipgrid of faculty explaining their Summits here.
  • If you have questions about the individual Summits, please contact the faculty listed in the catalog.

Online registration forms will be available beginning Friday, Nov. 9, and will be due Nov. 16.

6th-9th Grade Student/Parent/Guardian/Advisor Conference Sign-Ups Now Online!

This year, we are using Google Forms to schedule student/parent/guardian/advisor conferences. These conferences will be on Friday, Dec. 7. Conferences are an important touch-point between the school and families as we work together for student success. Students and advisors prepare to make this a productive time. There are no classes for students on this day. A link to the conference sign-up surveys was emailed to 6th-9th grade parents this week. Please refer to the email for further instructions on how to schedule your conference.

If you would like to have an optional student/parent/guardian/advisor conference with the advisor of your 10th, 11th, or 12th grader, you should contact your student’s advisor directly.

If you have questions or experience issues with signing up, please call Kiara Littlejohn at 206-816-6027.

Fall Blood Drive at Northwest, Nov. 13

Bloodworks Northwest will bring its mobile collection van to the south parking lot on Tuesday, Nov. 13, for our first blood drive of the year. Anyone in the Northwest School community is welcome to participate. Donors must be 16 or older; students ages 16 or 17 need to bring a parent-signed permission form (available here or at the front desk) to their donation appointment. More information and specifics about donor restrictions can be found on the Bloodworks Northwest website. Each pint donated can help three patients in need, so please give!

Thanks to everyone who has already signed up. Times are still available between 9:00 am-1:45 pm. The sign-up board is located outside the main office. If you have questions, please contact Heather Hall or Herb Bergamini.

Fall Sports Playoff Update

Congratulation to our girls' and boys’ cross country teams, who have qualified for the State Meet, on Saturday, Nov. 3, in Pasco. That is an amazing eighth-straight year for the girls and sixth-straight for the boys! Qualifying for state is a major feat, and doing it repeatedly testifies to the strength, depth, and dedication of our runners and coaches Allen Wood, Catherine Bisignano, Joe Bisignano, Annie Tempest, and Alanna Coker.

Our varsity volleyball team qualified for the Bi-District Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 3, at Meridian High School, in Bellingham. More information about the tournament can be found here.

In a proverbial “game for the ages,” our varsity boys' ultimate team gamely went toe-to-toe with No. 1 seed Nathan Hale in the State quarterfinals. We scored at the end of regulation time, dramatically sending the game to universe point at 11-11. We had a shot at the win on the last point, but a tipped disc came down in the hands of a diving Hale player for the game winner. Even as victory was tantalizingly within reach, this was an effort of which the players should be proud. We salute our players and coaches Reid Koss and Husayn Carnegie for their incredible performance!

Our varsity girls' soccer team's season ended after falling to Bush in the first round of the Emerald City League playoffs. Congratulations to the girls and coaches Stephanie Meyer and CJ Hamel on their season!
