Over the past 13 years, populations of color in Hennepin and Ramsey counties grew about 40 to 50 percent. In each of the Twin Cities area’s five purely suburban counties, that number was more than 100 percent.

Among the suburban communities with the most significant growth were Burnsville, Shakopee, Woodbury and Brooklyn Park, which all gained more than 8,000 residents of color between 2000 and 2013. Read more >>

Forbes compiled a list of Building Boom Towns, using building data for the nation’s Metropolitan Statistical Areas to find the 20 places where the most money has been spent on new construction from the start of 2014 through September.

A new breed of housing that would allow homeowners to build a separated residence on their property sailed through a key city panel. The so-called "accessory dwelling units" would be a new affordable living option for renters or aging family members that would provide a steady source of income for people struggling to pay for and maintain a larger home. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, October saw steady job growth, but weak wage gains. An increase in both areas would help support housing demands for 2015. Last month home builders and remodelers added 8,000 jobs to the residential construction sector on a seasonal adjusted basis according to NAHB analysis of BLS data. Read more >>
