This event is a celebration of the fabulous and diverse research conducted by our PhD students, who compete each year to deliver the best presentation. Well done to all the finalists and our winner taking out the top prize in all three categories, Jessica Bohorquez. EventsMedia Training for Scientists Dealing with the media can be a challenge. In this workshop, the Australian Science Media Centre will explore how scientists can get the most out of working with the mainstream media. Handling Difficult Conversations Well/Negotiating for Positive Outcomes It sometimes seems that life is full of difficult conversations! They’re the ones that we put off, avoid or stumble our way through. But it is possible to handle them with greater certainty and confidence – and still get a good result with less emotional turmoil. NewsUniversity of Adelaide Three Minute Thesis Final The 2019 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) final was held on 10 September as part of the Research Tuesdays series. Ten impressive PhD candidates from across all faculties presented their research to the public in just three minutes. Congratulations to all finalists. It was an informative and entertaining evening with all participants doing an amazing job of delivering clear, concise, and engaging presentations. The eventual winner was Jessica Bohorquez from the School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering with her presentation “Guardians of the Pipelines”. Jessica also took out the People’s Choice Award, and the Student’s Choice Award. Jessica now has the opportunity to compete at the final of the Asia-Pacific 3MT competition in Brisbane. The final will be streamed live so you can support Jessica by visiting the 2019 Asia-Pacific 3MT website on 4 October 2019. Good luck Jessica! Research Metrics for Grant Applications and Benchmarking Join us on Wednesday 18 September as Anthony Dona from Clarivate Analytics explores research metrics and benchmarking. Anthony will demonstrate how to use Clarivate products, including Web of Science, InCites, Journal Citation Reports, ORCiD and Publons, to generate the metrics you need for ARC and NHMRC grant applications, or to benchmark research. Copyright Considerations for your Thesis This session on Tuesday 24 September focuses on what copyright considerations you need to be aware of when completing your thesis for examination and final submission. The Industry Engaged PhD (IEP) Program and Scholarship IEP scholarships are now available to support eligible domestic and international students who undertake an industry placement. The University of Adelaide’s Industry Engaged PhD (IEP) program involves participation in an industry placement of 1-3 months (FTE) in duration, together with the completion of a number of Career and Research Skills Training (CaRST) and other professional development activities. Completion of the IEP, including the compulsory CaRST credit courses, will be reflected as a statement on the academic transcript.
