Orientation Day

Four times a year, the International Centre organises Orientation Day for newly arrived PhD students, postdoctoral scholars, International Staff and their spouses. The next Orientation day takes place on February 8, 2013. The Orientation Day programme is comprised of practical information about living and working in Denmark, a formal welcoming and a talk. Intensive Danish Course January 14-25, 2013

The International Centre in cooperation with LærDansk offers an intensive 2-week Danish course. The course targets foreign PhD students, researchers at Aarhus University as well as their spouses. The classes will take place at the International Centre in Aarhus. You can find out more information about the course here. Additionally, it is important you read below for the new procedure for attending Danish lessons at Lærdansk.

Danish Courses in Aarhus

The full semester courses begin in February and September and the classes will be held at Aarhus University. These courses are for those who are interesed in learning and using the Dansih language in an everyday basis. LærDansk has professional and experienced language teachers and it provides students with modern materials. Please note that the last day for signing up for the February course is January 31, 2013! Danish Courses for Nordic Citizents

The International Centre in cooperation with LærDansk offers intensive 3-week Danish courses for Nordic citizents throughout the year. The courses target Nordic speaking (Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic) staff and PhD students at Aarhus University and their spouses. The classes take place at LærDansk in Aarhus. This is an advanced course in Danish with focus on pronounciation. For more information please click here.

New procedure for attending Danish courses in Aarhus

The Municipality of Aarhus has decided that from now on you must have a referral from them in order to start Danish lessons. Therefore, you must contact Louise Jensen at Jobcenter Aarhus to get a referral for Danish classes. When Lærdansk Aarhus has received the referral from Jobcenter Aarhus you will be contacted by them in order to start your Danish tuition. Find the complete news item here.

Clarification course for highly educated foreigners in Denmark

The 6 week clarification course opens the doors for unemployed foreign residents in Denmark to small and medium sized enterprises. These enterprises need your insights and experiences from your home country to develop their export markets. Novum, the main organizer of the clarification course, is a non-profit organization working toward improving the conditions of highly educated foreigners.
The course consists of: coaching, tools for export, market analysis, corporate culture and active sales. Moreover, you will obtain direct contact to enterprises via telemarketing and company visits. At the course you will learn how you can optimize your communications competences and brand your self to small and medium sized enterprises. New Service in 2013: International Guest Researchers Support

In brief, the service covers assistance in ensuring that the guest has the relevant and proper permits or registrations related to his/her visit at AU plus providing information about the guest's insurance coverage during his/her stay at AU. In addition, the service also informs the guests about what is offered to internationals at AU (International Centre, University International Club, networking etc.). First a free film. Followed by Wendy Law reading a story for the children. Including water & coffee, all free of charge

Wednesday 23 January  UIC: Introduction to Facebook, by Inger Stokkink

10:00 -12:00 | OSAA (Open Space Aarhus), Bryggervej 30, 8240 Aarhus

Inger Stokkink will introduce us to proper use of Facebook. Please bring your own laptop or iPhone for the session. There is a limit of 15 participants.

Wednesday 30 January   UIC: The advantages of growing up bilingual, by Natalie Hanssen

14:00-16:00 | Conference Room 1 at the International Centre, DTM Building 1650 on Høegh-Guldbergs Gade 4.

This is an interesting topic for many. It could be of particular interest for parents with each their language, or now in a situation where they have to make their child/children comfortable with learning Danish, and at the same time keeping up their mother tongue.

The PhD House Activity Group, UIC, and the shop Games Aarhus jointly organize another board game event. Come and play with your friends or meet new people around the game board. If you still are not convinced, there will be free cake and if you sign up for the event, you’ll also get a free cup of coffee!
