The things children say, the way children pray

Through the thoughtfulness of one of our extended Sacred Heart School families, our students messages were hand and heart delivered to Pope Francis during his visit to Philadelphia this weekend. Often, we use the phrase “the things children say”. We offer the following notes that were sent to the Pope from our students as “the way children pray”:

* Dear Pope, I need you to pray for my brother. He's three and he is perfect. With the rite stuff, he is the best.

* Pray for my cousins because they live in a war country.

* Dear Pope Francis, Please pray for my family, friends, relitevs and teachers. We love you and we love your friend, God.

* Dear Pope Francis, Pleas pray for God's peac and I will to ! Thank you for being so kind.

* Pleae pray for my family, my dog and the people who suffer.

* Please pray for me and my sister in college. My other sister has a bad cough along with my dad. Me and my mom are good.

* Pray for my uncle because he wants to be a firefighter. I hear you love to tango. I also love to tango. Bye, love you.

* Dear Pope Francis, I hope you have a nice trip to Phili. I'm glad you re trying to make peace in the world

* Please pray for me and my friends that we will be nice from now on. I will try to treat my sister better

Notes from the Office

We welcome Linda DeMasi to the office at Sacred Heart School. She is a full-time secretary working at our front desk. She may be taking your calls or helping when you visit. We are very happy to have her in our Scared Heart family!

Please send in your Family Data form if you have not yet done so.  The office requires one per family for emergency contacts and to update the database for our Family Directory.  Once all the forms are in and information entered, we can begin preparing our new directory. It is usually ready by the end of October.

The office is also resending the Parent Lunch and Family Assessment forms to those families for whom a copy is outstanding.  Please return them to the office right away.

The first Parent-Teacher conferences of the school year will be scheduled for November 5 and 6. A conference form is included in this family envelope. This conference is mandatory, and is a time to meet the homeroom teacher receive your child’s first report card.  Please choose the day and time that work best for you and return the form by Monday, October 19.

School tours begin on Wednesday, October 7, for parents interested in registering their children for Kindergarten next year.  Tours are scheduled weekly on Wednesdays from 8:45 - 9:30 a.m. Please call the office to schedule a tour.

Look for information and order forms in this month's envelope about School Picture Day which is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14.

United States citizenship celebrated

Congratulations to Mrs. Maria Osio, the Spanish teacher at Sacred Heart School. Mrs. Osio became a citizen of the United States on September 23. Born in Spain and raised in Venezuela, Mrs. Osio is skillful teacher, a beloved faculty member, a devout Catholic, and now a United States citizen.

Six middle level students, representing the Student Council, attended the naturalization ceremony.  The students witnessed people from twenty-five foreign countries stand and take an oath pledging their loyalty to the United States and its Constitution.

Congratulations again to Mrs. Osio!

Upcoming book fair

The whole school is excited about our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair, which runs from October 16-23.

In addition to this being an opportunity to excite our students about reading, this is also a great fundraiser for the school and it helps our teachers build their classroom libraries.

New this year, we will also be running an online book fair for those who cannot make it to the fair.  You can share this website with friends, family, and co-workers who may want to purchase books to support our students and school.

Access our online book fair can be found on the school website or  http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/sacredheartpgh. The online fair will run October 16-November 2 to give everyone some additional time to shop after the book fair.

Volunteers are needed to help with the following: marketing and promotion, book fair set up, book fair staffing, and to help close down the book fair. Interested volunteers may sign up on the online book fair page listed above, or send an email with your name, email address, and cell phone number to kimbermoses@gmail.com or elisaczz@yahoo.com. If you are unable to volunteer, please consider asking a relative or friend to volunteer on behalf of your family.

The book fair schedule will be made available in the coming weeks.
