June 2019

Hi ,

Welcome to June's Coordinator Connect. In this issue see how the Working Better Together conference recordings could be incorporated into your next meeting. Register to be a guest speaker at neighbouring networks, and see what happened to acknowledge your contribution in National Volunteer Week.

Where has the year gone! It's almost 30 June, which means returning meeting attendance sheets and planning for future meetings. Whether you plan meetings by calendar year or financial year, our calendar can help set dates.

Network funding remains unchanged, get in touch if you are unsure of your network budget.

Please make sure your attendance sheets are returned as soon as possible, so MHPN can close off 2018/19.

Conference Recordings Available

We welcomed over 8,000 attendances across 18 activities which included 49 presenters, across three content streams:

  • Mental Health and the Military Experience
  • Grief and Loss
  • Trauma: Impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences

The recordings are now available to view via the MHPN webinar library.

Three ways to use conference recordings at network meetings:

Choose a recording or content stream, watch the chosen recording/s together at your meeting/s or send the recording/s to members to watch beforehand.
Across a number of meetings you might like to:

1. Refine the art of effective case consultation
Create an interactive session by asking two attending members from different disciplines, to model the case consultation.

2. Build clinical capacity by discussing one of the de-identified case studies
A number of activities include a case study upon which the panel discussion is based, you can use these case studies as they are or adapt them to suit your locality:

  • Tom part one and two, Jim and Judith's stories explore the military experience and mental health
  • Carmen, Erin and Adam's stories look at grief, loss and mental health
  • Thy and Thy's parents' stories explore trauma and the impacts of adverse childhood experiences
  • Leeanne and Dylan's stories explore supporting adult survivors of childhood trauma

3. Showcase a single discipline perspective
Focus on one practitioner's response, choosing from:

  • In conversation: A GP and a Social Worker
  • Through a Discipline's Lens: A Psychiatry Perspective
  • Or choose a single response from a panel discussion.

Read about technology tips for using webinars as meeting content here.

Get in touch to discuss how these ideas might work for your network.

Coordinator Guest Speaker

Are you curious about other MHPN networks, what they discuss and how they set up their meetings?

We invite you to register as a guest speaker

By offering to speak at a network meeting you'll get the opportunity to:

  • meet another coordinator face-to-face
  • extend your circle of colleagues and get an insight into another network
  • share your clinical knowledge or research
  • promote your practice as a referral pathway.

If you're interested, fill in the guest speaker register form or reply to this email to discuss.

National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week was held May 20-26 celebrating volunteers around Australia. MHPN is only as successful as its people and we send a huge thank-you to all our 419 volunteer coordinators who spread the message of collaborative and interdisciplinary care every meeting. The following post appeared on LinkedIn acknowledging you!

Give your Network Social Media Exposure

Share your network meetings with MHPN followers. Post meeting stories on your Facebook or LinkedIn page and tag  The Mental Health Professionals' Network so we can share your post via the MHPN social pages.

Reminder: Please ensure everyone in photos has given permission to share their image.

Network Directories Update

As part of our commitment to improving interdisciplinary practice and supporting practitioner referral pathways, in the coming weeks MHPN will be providing network members with an opportunity to include their specific areas of interest within the mental health field on network directories.
This is an opt-in process whereby practitioners will be asked to select up to three areas of interest in mental health practice. The chosen areas of interest will then be included on any network directory. This will better enable practitioners to use the directory for referring clients with specific mental health needs to another network member who may be better placed to assist.
