Thankfully, Auckland joining the rest of New Zealand at Alert Level 1 earlier this week was music to the ears for our Auckland lawn bowls community. The Auckland and North Harbour Bowls Greenkeeping Association is holding a Greenkeepers' Field Day on Monday 15 March 2021 at Papatoetoe Hunters Corner starting at 10.00am. Hosted by James Williams and Everitt Darlington they have invited Carl from Prebble Seeds Turf World and Brian Hamilton to update you on the latest trends on greenkeeping and soil fumigation. News from the green...Kittyhawks supporting St JohnsDate: 22 February 2021 With teams from Leigh, Warkworth and Mangawhai they raised $1,500 on the day. It was a great day of bowling, followed by the traditional pitstop at the Puhoi Hotel on the way home. Well done Kittyhawks keep up the great work supporting local communities. Burger and BowlsA winning combination for Maraetai Bowling Club! Locals of all ages enjoyed trying their hand at bowls at the Maraetai Bowling Club’s first ‘burger and bowls’ evening. Juniors making their markKohimarama Bowls has been growing the number of its Junior players, with success if the number of Juniors actively playing is anything to go by! Committed to getting their 1-5 Year players on the greens and entering competitions as soon as possible, they introduced On-the-greens bowls. It's designed to teach etiquette, rules and strategies of the game, plus there is coaching - all these assist players to develop skills and build confidence. Jim Jericevich is one Junior player making his mark. He was introduced to bowls as a student in the club's Lawn Bowls 101 programme in October 2020. Jumping in and playing at the weekly social nights led to his membership in December 2020 - now he is winning! Congratulations, on Saturday 6 February Jim and his partner Mark Compton won the Men's Pairs Champions.
