Please note that school begins on August 21, 2019. Secondary ScienceAll science classes are continuing their quest to complete the Essential Units on or before The end of the school year. In addition to that endeavor -- students are actively involved in either individual efforts or group work on both their Middle Stales Association Spring Science Inquiry Investigation Projects and Science Exhibition Projects. The projects have a due date of May 17, 2019. Projects will be presented and are available for viewing on Thursday, May 23rd. between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. International Measurements in the 7-year-old classThe 7YOC has been working on measurement in mathematics! We can measure length using metric units (centimeters and meters) as well as customary units (inches, feet, and yards). QSI's curriculum requires students to learn both systems of measurement. It is fun to measure the lengths of objects in our classroom! Dutch NewsIn the 4/5-year-old class, we started with a theme about the supermarket. We read the book "a shopping cart full of groceries" which is about a girl and a boy whose mothers are meeting each other in the supermarket and then start chatting. Sounds familiar? The boy and the girl take care of the shopping and you can imagine they not only put in the cart what is on mother's list, but also what they really like. We enjoyed the story and then made our own shopping list. What would we like to put in our shopping cart? We learn that lists are easy to remember something and used this concept for new songs about food. We also made a list of the favorite food in our class, in the form of a graphic. We now know that in our class pancakes, chips en ice cream are the most favorite food!" Cooking ClassThe best way to win the hearts of many students is through food! The 5 – 7-year-olds are really enjoying the class. These quotes can be heard every week: “Mrs. Townsend, I love cooking class!” or “What are we going to make next week?” Many students have found new snacks that they love and want to make at home. Some of the things they have learned to cook so far are an egg in a hole, grilled cheese, french toast, pancakes, and no-bake chocolate cookies. June 7th Concert and Picnic! As promised, our final concert will mostly feature music by our talented student writers. Already, ten original songs plus added bits to two children classics will be featured. The 3s and 4s will do their own versions of these songs on a not-yet-chosen date. However, for our older children, they will kick off our festivities for the June 7 School Picnic. Also, the best recorder compositions will be played as solos, duo, and even trios. All recorder students have been coming up with their own pieces, once they reach the "black belt" level of Recorder Karate. Children and classes can even practice the songs at home or in their classes as I have posted videos showing the song lyrics on Youtube while I play and sing the songs. The easiest way to reach these clips is to go to Youtube and then type in "Mister Stevenson Concert." Again, no children are on the clips, for security purposes, just the chord charts, as they are called. Additionally, students will play multiple instruments, including the already mentioned recorders, ukuleles, bass guitar, drums, and glockenspiels. Yes, it's another ambitious undertaking but why set the bar "low?" Already, the compositions are being sung on the buses and maybe you've even heard them at home. They are coming up with some very catchy tunes or song ideas! * * * * * After the concert, we will have our school's spring Picnic! The school will prepare shashlik (barbecue) and drinks. Families are encouraged to bring a dish to share.TALENT SHOW MAY 22 at 3 to 4 PMStudents interested in performing should have their parents email Mr. Stevenson. He will put their names onto the official signup list. Everyone will also need to audition. For most students, this can take place during their music class. However, the first step is to email Mr. Stevenson at bill-stevenson@atyrau.qsi.org For our students fasting during RamadanOur school is happy to provide the following accommodations for children who will be fasting (Swam) during Ramadan.
