Seven months ago, Mr Damian Chase and I decided that we would enter the Gold Coast Marathon. I had not completed a marathon before but had a niggling desire to see if I could manage it. COLLEGE NOTICES–––––– YEAR 8 SUPPORTER'S DUTY–––––– A reminder that Year 8 have been designated supporter’s duty on Saturday 10 August. All boys are to report to the Powell Pavilion between 1.00 and 1.15pm to have their names marked off. Once this has been completed, boys will move to the back ovals to support the College’s 1st XI and await further instructions. Boys will be dismissed at the conclusion of the 1st XV game, approximate time is 4.50pm. YEAR 12 MAJOR WORKS NIGHT–––––– The Principal invites you to the Opening of the Year 12 Major Works Evening on Wednesday 4 September 2019. WHOLE SCHOOL–––––– NEW PERSPECTIVES - PAPUA NEW GUINEA IMMERSION–––––– On Monday 1 July, twelve Year 11 students, accompanied by Mr Tennant, Ms Santiago, Mr Minter and Ms Rocca travelled to Rabaul on the island of East New Britain in Papua New Guinea. Upon arriving we were welcomed into the community of The Edmund Rice Life Training Centre with whom we would be staying for the next twelve days. WINTER SLEEP OUT–––––– On Friday 26 July, more than 70 students and teachers took part in the Winter sleepout. This informed us as to how many homeless people of Australia live and the importance of why we should cherish what we have. UK CRICKET TOUR 2019–––––– On 29 June, 30 students accompanied by four staff members departed for a trip to the United Kingdom on a College Cricket tour. Throughout the tour the Development and Opens teams played a variety of different formats (50 Over Declaration, Timed Match, 50 overs, T20) of Cricket in different conditions, which tested our abilities against some well renowned Cricket schools. PERFORMING ARTS SHOWCASE–––––– The Annual Performing Arts Showcase was held last Thursday evening in the College Gymnasium. AUSTRALIAN DRUMLINE COMPETITION–––––– Last Friday evening the College’s Senior Drumline represented the College for the first time in the Australian National Drumline Competition at St. Ignatius' College Riverview. CULTURAL–––––– MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY–––––– Last Monday 29 July, the two of us were joined by Year 10 students from schools all around Sydney at the NSW Parliament House. The day’s central theme was combating the problems in today’s society, from climate change, to the education gap between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians. MOCK TRIAL–––––– A mock trial is a simulation of an actual court case. Two teams are given the witness statements and files for two different sides of a case. One side’s aim is to prove guilt or responsibility, and the other is to prove innocence. Even with a few weeks to prepare a case, anything can happen in a mock trial, just like actual court.
