TERM 2 WEEK 7 JUNE 13TH, 2018 OUR LADY OF GRACE NEWSLETTER PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE Power of the Spoken Word Word-of-mouth continues to be the best advertising medium for our school. Almost every family seeking to enrol a child that I have spoken to in recent weeks, has said that they want their child at OLG mainly due to the recommendation of friends and neighbours. This is also one of the factors contributing to the 'community' feel of our school - friends and acquaintances being encouraged to join the OLG community. I have begun interviews for enrolments into the Kindy class of 2019 and of families seeking Pre Kindy 2019 and/or Kindy 2020. These interviews will continue through to the end of this term. Please keep spreading the word! Semester Reports It is expected that reports will be sent home on Thursday 21 June with parent-teacher interviews to be conducted in the following week. Parents will be informed of the interview booking process next week. ROBOCUP METRO COMPETITION Over the weekend, 12 students from Our Lady of Grace took part in the Robocup's North Metro competition. This day was designed to assist students in preparing for the state event to be held at Curtin in August this year. Students had 2 hours in the morning to program, practise and prepare for friendly competitions in the afternoon. Much learning took place and students felt the excitement and nerves of the competition to come! Our OnStage Performance team were first up in the competition and compared very well to other teams. Our Line Rescue team were faced with many challenges including changing light intensity and tough officials. These boys weathered the storm and came out the other end with more ideas, increased resilience and more coherent team! Our Soccer team flourished on the day after a few programming challenges. The boys robots stood up to the secondary schools and even won a few games! These students are to be commended for their huge efforts, not only on the day but their work in the lead up to this practice event. All of these students have given up their lunch times and after school hours to get their robots effectively programmed. In addition, they all gave up their entire Saturday to participate at Sacred Heart. Huge well done to all of you!! Congratulations on all of your efforts, Line Rescue: Cosimo Tricholo, Ethan Boss, Luke Smelter and Oliver Stupple OnStage Performance: Madeleine Budas, Sophia Joyce, Eliza Caputi and Charlotte Selth Soccer: Riley BUrns, Nicholas DiFalco, Tai Maxwell and Owen Buck Mrs Gen Fenlon Gateway Coordinator

As part of our English program on procedural writing and our Maths program on column graphs, Mrs Sherlock made scones with us! After preparing the scone dough, we sequenced the steps and then did a tally on our favourite scone topping. As you can see from the photo, jam and cream was the winner there! So many of us took the recipe home and made scones over the weekend! Thanks to Mrs Sherlock for a wonderful week in our class. Mrs Burke and Mrs Tangifua Congratulations to Gus Kern from PPB is one of two ambassadors for the new Telethon speech and hearing campaign. Congratulations to Amanda Doherty and her extraordinary team for creating a fantastic OLG event with Rockstar Bingo. The evening was a huge success in bringing a ll of the year group parents together for a night filled with great music, dancing and lots of laughs! This event raised over $8000 raised and will definitely make a significant contribution to improving our school facilities. Thank you to all of the OLG families and also the broader community who donated auction items, and a big shout out to all of the volunteers who helped with the set up and clean up. A special mention to Father Mark who stole the show with the dance moves to Gangnam Style. And an extra special thank you to The Rocking Frog band of year 4’s who opened the evening. We look forward to creating more events like this for everyone to enjoy.
A reminder to save the date for our special P & F ‘wine & cheese’ night, with presentations from the P & F Committee and our School Board. This is a great opportunity to meet your School Board members in person, and hear directly from the P & F and School Board on major things that are happening within the school. We will also want to inform members of how and where we plan to invest all P&F monies raised in making OLG an even better school for our kids. We welcome you to voice your ideas and ask any questions of the P & F and School Board to help you understand what we are aiming to achieve and how we can do things better. Come and enjoy a relaxing wine & cheese on the night. We look forward to seeing more new faces so bring a friend along who hasn’t been before! This special meeting will be held in the OLG Parish Hall and we’ll be asking for people to RSVP via flexibuzz next week so we can cater accordingly. OLGNC From the President We are almost half way through the season and we hope all the players and parents are enjoying the season so far. I have attended many games over the last few weeks and it is so great to see so many smiles on court, great team spirit and sportsmanship towards our competitors. I often receive feedback from opposition coaches on what good sports our teams are. Please keep this up as you are doing us proud as a club. Recently, we were privileged to have the knowledge and experience of Rachel Williams from WDNA mentoring the young umpires from our club. A clinic was organised for Rachel to observe our umpires and offer them advice and guidance on how they can continue to improve their skills. We thank Rachel, the umpires who attended and our wonderful players and coaches who made the session happen.
