Our first parents' evening, 'Meet the Teacher', was held on Wednesday evening and the large majority of parents and carers were able to join us for a catch up regarding how the children have settled in to their new classes.

If you missed an appointment for any reason, please contact your child's teacher who will be happy to meet you at a mutually convenient time.

Parents will know that we attach great importance to reading, in school and at home. We expect children to read every day so that they become great readers and develop a love of books.

Children in Year 5 and Year 6 are attempting a 'round the world reading challenge' where the children will earn 500 miles for each 10 minutes spent reading their school book at home. Parents need to 'sign this off'.

In order to avoid the children racing through books without understanding the content, please find a link to a list of prompt questions that parents can use when a child has finished a book or chapter.

It would be great if parents of Y5 and Y6 children could use these, or similar, questions when children finish their daily reads, thank you.

A special service will be held in Holy Trinity Church on Sunday 22 October, beginning at 10.30am. During this service young people and adults will become confirmed as communicant members of the Church of England.

This is always a very special service and Rev Nancy would love to welcome lots of people into church to support the confirmation candidates and their families and friends.

Eucharist Service in school

In order to enable children from our school who will have been recently confirmed to join fully in our school Communion Service; the next school Eucharist will be held in the school hall on Thursday 26 October at 9.10am. Everyone is warmly invited to join us.

On Thursday we launched our annual Scholastic Book Fair with a themed 'Book Character Mufti Day'. Many families went to great lengths to create some wonderful characters and costumes.

The challenge to identify a book character whose name begins with the same letter as the child's was met really well. The children looked fantastic, as well as the staff!

The Book Fair will be open after school next week on Monday and Tuesday - an excellent opportunity to buy early Christmas presents.

Beetle Drive

A family Beetle Drive is finishing just as the BLS Bulletin goes to press. These events are always great fun and we're sure that those who came along had a lovely time.

Date of next meeting

The next committee meeting will be held on Monday 20 November at 7.00pm in The Royal Hotel, BLS. This date supersedes a meeting previously advertised to take place on Friday 20 October, this meeting will not take place.

Cake Sale

The next cake sale will be held next Friday, 20 October. Many thanks in advance to Class 10 (Mr Gittins' class) for supplying the cakes and goodies.

Our Friday morning table tennis club is proving to be very popular and the players are really developing their skills and understanding of the game.

As a consequence, Mr Gittins has entered a team into a local competition to be held at Morecambe Community High School tomorrow morning. We're also considering sending a team to the Lancashire championships where the standard of play will be really high. 'In for a penny ...

Parents of children in Year 6 will recall receiving a letter about the NCMP at the beginning of term. The relevant health professionals will be visiting school on Monday next week to undertake the height and weight measurements.

Whilst the programme is not compulsory, all children will take part unless their parent / carer informs the school that they do not consent for their child to engage with the programme.

If you do not want your child to take part, please ensure that the school office is informed on Monday morning. (NB: we have heard from some parents already and their requests have been noted).

A note for your diaries: Class 7's special assembly for parents and family members will be held in the school hall on Friday 20 October, beginning at 2.45pm.

The hall doors will be opened from 2.30pm and the bottom gate will be open to allow pedestrian access.

If you intend to come along by car, PLEASE park well away from school and walk up. There is a lot of parking on the street outside Holy Trinity Church as well as in the Community Centre car park.

Irresponsible parking often causes chaos outside school after these events - if possible, please walk. Thank you.
