Affiliate Spotlight: Jodi Krall, PhD

This issue’s C4 Center Affiliate Spotlight features Dr. Jodi Krall. Dr. Krall is a Project Director at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh’s Community Health Division and the University of Pittsburgh Diabetes Institute whose research expertise includes assessing barriers to care, diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES), health promotion, disease prevention and health-related social needs.

Dr. Krall’s research employs mixed methods, behavioral interventions, pragmatic trials, and quality improvement projects to evaluate the role of diabetes mobile apps and devices to promote and support diabetes self-management behaviors. Dr. Krall is currently working on a new NIDDK-funded feasibility study with Drs. Ingrid Libman and Linda Siminerio that aims to address suboptimal DSMES program participation rates among emerging adults with type 1 diabetes. Using a user-centered design approach, the investigators will develop a novel, group-based DSMES intervention delivered via telehealth and designed specifically for emerging adults with type 1 diabetes. Dr. Megan Hamm and Pitt Qualitative, Evaluation, and Stakeholder Engagement (Qual EASE) Research Services will also be contributing to this project.

To learn more about Dr. Krall’s work, see her UPMC Children’s Hospital staff profile.
