District Court – Review of Mandatory Electronic Document Lodgment 12 Month Post ImplementationFollowing the mandating of civil elodgment on 1 March 2018, the District Court will hold an information seminar, chaired by Principal Registrar Melville, on Wednesday, 27 February 2019. This information session will enable participants to discuss any persistent issues they experience when lodging documents via the Electronic Document System (EDS) and for the Court to provide feedback regarding observations of the use of the EDS by law firms. There will also be an opportunity to discuss and suggest possible improvements to the system. The session will be conducted from 4.30pm – 5.30pm in a Courtroom in the District Court Building, and via video-link to Albany Courthouse, Bunbury Courthouse and Geraldton Courthouse for practitioners that wish to join in at these locations. Attendees must RSVP and advise which location they will be attending, on or before 14 February 2019 by email to jim.petrovski@justice.wa.gov.au.

Notice of Changes
to the Consolidated
Practice DirectionsThe Supreme Court of Western Australia produces a consolidated document for use by the legal community and members of the public as a guide on practice and procedure in the Court. Effective from today, 1 February 2019, significant changes to the Practice Directions in relation to the Court's civil jurisdiction will come into effect. Those changes affect the standard orders made by Case Managers (both Judges and Registrars) in relation to the preparation of civil matters for trial. Practice Directions 4.1.2, 4.1.2.2, 4.4.1 and 4.5 will be substantially amended. The changes broadly fall into two categories: - Witness outlines and witness statements; and
- Costs disclosure.
Please refer to the Notice to Practitioners issued by the Hon Chief Justice for further information. Substantial amendments have also been made to PD 1.2.5 in relation to the procedure and standard orders used in eTrials (with consequential amendments to PDs 1.2.5.1, 1.2.6 and 4.1.2.2) and minor amendments will be made to PD 4.1.2.3 in relation to Judge in Charge of Commercial Arbitration List.
Review of the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) for an Electronic Conveyancing National Law – SurveyIn 2011, all six States and the Northern Territory signed the Intergovernmental Agreement for an Electronic Conveyancing National Law (IGA) for developing, implementing and managing the regulatory framework for National E-Conveyancing, including the legislation to support National E-Conveyancing, the Electronic Conveyancing National Law (ECNL). The Australian Registrars’ National Electronic Conveyancing Council has engaged a consulting firm to undertake an independent review of the IGA’s operation and terms. A survey
has been developed to gather information from a broad group of stakeholders. The survey will close on 17 February 2019.

Law Mutual (WA) Risk Management Seminars
