This program would use low-cost, easy-to-find materials to make experiments. It may seem a lofty ambition, but it proved to be solid – and was recently chosen as winner of this year’s Western competition for the World’s Challenge Challenge.United Kingdom Turing Scheme The UK Government has launched the Turing Scheme, which will provide funding opportunities for students registered at UK institutions to participate in study or work experiences abroad. Applications for initiatives to be considered for this funding scheme are to be submitted by UK institutions. Western International is liaising with UK partners to identify potential opportunities for engagement through the Turing Scheme, and welcomes expressions of interest from academic units who are engaging in teaching and research activities with UK institutions. Join the African Conversation Series session “Education as a Social and Economic Development Game Changer” Register to attend the next session in The Africa Institute's new series, taking place April 22 from 1-2:30 pm ET. Featured speaker Dr. Teresiah Wambui Gathenya, a Senior Education Specialist currently focused on early grade reading as a core foundation for education, will participate in a panel discussion with two youths, Hannah Nungari Ndungu and Daniel Mwangi (all pictured above). Radboud-Western Collaboration Fund applications now open Radboud University, The Netherlands and Western have created a new Collaboration Fund to facilitate and support joint initiatives that will strengthen the two universities’ strategic priorities, through innovative education as well as multi-disciplinary cutting-edge research to create academic and societal impact. The Collaboration Fund encourages proposals for one-year collaboration projects in the areas of research and learning & teaching (education) as well as opportunities for short term mobility visits. The application and a guide for applicants, which includes information on the selection criteria, are now available. International travel requirements and restrictions Western International is continuing to provide updates and support to students who choose to travel to Canada from abroad for their studies. As government requirements and restrictions evolve, students are strongly encouraged to follow the up-to-date guidelines and steps on our International Arrival website to ensure they complete all the necessary steps before travelling and when they arrive, including completing required COVID-19 testing, a three-day stay in a government-authorized hotel and registering their quarantine plan with us in advance. The Undergraduate Awards 2021 – International Competition for Outstanding CourseworkAs you may know, Western is once again participating in The Undergraduate Awards, the world’s largest pan-discipline academic awards program that identifies leading creative thinkers through their undergraduate coursework. If you know of any students who might be interested and eligible, please consider encouraging them to submit coursework for consideration.Canada-Germany Research Funding Opportunity: National Resource Council Canada (NRC)-IRAP and the German ZIM Proposals are now being accepted from companies from Canada and Germany who wish to perform joint R&D leading to technology commercialization focused on developing innovative products, processes or technology-based services in all technological and application areas which have strong market potential. Canada-Germany Research Funding Opportunity: NRC-MITACS-RWTH Globalink Research Award Program National Research Council Canada and partners Mitacs and RWTH Aachen Technical University have announced the launch a new Globalink program for German Masters or PhD students to work at a Canadian university.
