The grant is open to not-for-profit, incorporated community groups and organisations (or those auspiced by a group that is incorporated). Please note they are not available for schools, businesses or individuals. Beach ReportIs it a good swimming day?Until 11 March, you can check out the water quality of a number of local beaches by visiting the Victorian Government’s Yarra and Bay website for their Beach Report. Beach Report keeps you informed of the recreational water quality at 36 beaches around Port Phillip Bay through daily forecasts. The forecasts mean you can make informed decisions about where to swim. The website includes daily forecasts, information on weekly samples, as well as details on an SMS service that you can sign up to for updates. Forecasts rate the water quality as either ‘Good’, ‘Fair’ or ‘Poor’ and are a prediction of bacterial pollution in the water. EPA Victoria monitors recreational water quality at the beaches with water samples collected every week during summer. How can you help? To improve local water quality, there is a lot you can do.
Report litterers through EPA Victoria. Saving paper - one piece at a timeStudy and paperwork now onlineAs you probably know, avoiding paper waste is even better than recycling it, due to the many resources needed in every step of the process from growing and harvesting the trees up to the recycling or disposal of the used paper. You may have noticed that Council has been quietly introducing a range of paper saving measures over the past few years. Last year a free on-line learning portal was introduced for local businesses and residents who hold a Frankston City Library Card. Lynda.com has over 6000 training course videos and documentaries that can be viewed anytime or anywhere as long as you have internet connection. This enables paperless learning as well as avoiding travel to classes, making it an environmentally friendly learning option. If you are interested in this opportunity, just set up your password with a friendly library assistant next time you visit your local library. Council is also reducing paper waste by enabling “paperwork” and payments to be accessed online, for example Rates, Planning Applications and Dog Registrations. That's all for this late summer edition. Don't forget there is a wealth of beautiful natural reserves you can explore this summer when you need a break from the beach or the extreme weather. Shade and shelter from the wind and heat awaits you on many of the beautiful walking tracks dotted around our municipality. Discover more by picking up a copy of the Natural Reserves within Frankston City booklet at Council Customer Service Centres or visit Council's website.
