Welcome to the Whitaker Institute!

From the Director:

Welcome to the first newsletter from The Whitaker Institute for Innovation and Societal Change. The creation of the Whitaker Institute is a significant strategic development and evolution for our talented and ambitious research communities in business and social sciences.  As a research community we are hugely honoured to name our Institute after Dr. T.K Whitaker an eminent economist who is regarded as a pivotal figure in the economic and social development of modern Ireland.  As you can see from our first Newsletter it has been a very busy and successful year for our research community.  Further editions of our Newsletter will feature our researchers, themes and activities.
I would like to give a special thanks to all our research community and our research support staff for their support, enthusiasm and generousity of spirit in creating the Whitaker Institute. We have much to look forward to in 2013.
Is mise, le meas
Dr. James Cunningham

In the News

We were honoured to welcome eminent statesperson Dr. TK Whitaker to NUI Galway in October 2012 to endorse the establishment of the Whitaker Institute for Innovation and Societal Change. The visit was covered by RTE and TG4 News as well as local and national press. The Institute was also the subject of a feature article in the Irish Times in November: Read it HERE!

Several of our members and their research activities were highlighted in recent issues of the University's publications Research Matters and Ollsceala Magazines.

Also in the News was the launch of the Report on the Economic Impact of the Volvo Ocean Race Finale in Galway, which found that the event was worth €60.5m to the economy. Read more!
