The Park District says Good-bye to Commissioner Miller
The Park District is saddened to announce that Christine Miller has resigned her position as a Commissioner on our Board, as she is relocating out of the district. Christine was first elected to the Board in April of 2013. During her time on the Board, she was responsible for Little Learners Preschool at a time when the preschool was the cornerstone of the Park District. Her vision and dedication gave them direction and support, and helped grow the curriculum under our long-time preschool teacher Pam Terlap. Christine Miller also served as the Vice President of the Board of Commissioners. In addition, after managing the preschool, she moved on to the responsibility of managing Parks and Grounds for many years. She was responsible for handling major contracts with our
landscapers to ensure that Grandwood Park Park District maintained a beautiful appearance. Within the Board of commissioners Christine was known for her attention to detail and her rigorous oversight of the grounds crew. Christine will be missed as part of our Grandwood Park Park District family, but we wish her well in her new endeavors. The vacancy will be filled by appointment at sometime in the near future. If you are interested in serving on the Grandwood Park Park District Board of Commissioners, please contact Leslie Cassidy at 847-356-0008, or parkdistrict@grandwoodpark.net.

Music by the Lake
July 18 - August 22Summer Concert Series 2021
This years summer music series known as Music by the Lake has now concluded. Thank you for coming out and enjoying this local neighborhood event. A good turnout was observed at all six Sunday afternoon events! The entertainment ranged from a blues duo to an Elton John “Simply Elton” concert. Attendees brought picnic lunches, beverages, friends, family and their pets (on leashes) to the park to enjoy a few hours of free entertainment. The Music By the Lake series will be scheduled again next year. The Grandwood Park Park District is happy to have been able to present this program . If you have ideas or feedback on the types of music and
entertainment you would like to see in next years events, please contact Leslie Cassidy at the Grandwood Park Park District office at 847-356-0008 or parkdistrict@grandwoodpark.net. We would like to thank all who came out and supported this program, and enjoyed the music and the camaraderie on Sunday afternoons this summer. See you next year!

Adopt-a-Highway Project a SuccessThe Grandwood Park Park District has adopted Hutchins Road from Grand Avenue to Stearns School Road. Our responsibility is to do “clean-ups” on both sides of the road twice a year. On Sunday, July 11th, The Civic Association coordinated a group of 16 neighborhood volunteers that walked both sides of Hutchins Road from Stearns School to Grand Avenue to pick up litter. They collected over 10 bags of trash!!! We hope to hold our second clean-up in late October-early November. THANK YOU FOR DONATING SOME OF YOUR TIME TO YOUR COMMUNITY - IT IS GREATLY
APPRECIATED.

THE COMMUNITY CENTER FACILITY IS OPEN FOR RENTALS!!

We have all lived through a difficult year and a half with Covid. It has changed the way the neighborhood gets together, has events, and gets to know one another. Under Covid restrictions, engaging in large groups has been impossible. It has required both the Park District and the Civic Association to cancel many meetings and many events that all of us have come to enjoy over the years. With the vaccine and other options to mitigate our risks, the Park District is launching several initiatives to engage the residents of the Grandwood Park Park District. In addition to the Music by the Lake series, another of those initiatives is “Walking our Community “. Four walking loops around The Shires and Grandwood Park have been identified and measured. Anyone walking around our
community will now will able to see how to get from one side of the community to the other, and actually how far you’ve walked. You may have seen colored X’s, triangles, circles or squares painted on the sidewalks. These are symbols for each of the different loops. The maps are available on the Grandwood Park website at http://www.grandwoodpark.net/walking-path-trail-loop-map/ Signs will be installed along the loops with a QR code you can scan to get to the map on the website quickly. Stay tuned for new events that will focus
on using the newly marked walking loops. We look forward to seeing you out and about. Be sure to stop and say “hello” to many of our new neighbors as you walk. Use more opportunities to engage with one another. Oktoberfest is another opportunity for us to engage with the residents of our community. Oktoberfest is scheduled for September 25 starting at 4 PM. There will be food, music, beverages for children and adults, as well as fireworks at dusk. As an outdoor event it should help us all feel more comfortable in the age of maintaining social distancing. The Park District is eager to continue identifying ways to bring both old and new residents together to enjoy our small community and it’s very special culture. If you have ideas for events that will help
engage our neighborhood please feel free to reach out to Leslie Cassidy at the Park District office on Hutchins Road at 847-356-0008, or parkdistrict@grandwoodpark.net.
